ticking when cold

sorry forgot to mention when i start the bike from cold i have a ticking sound anybody think it could be cam chain it has 20,000 miles on clock and is a 1999 model if so are they easy to do thank you very much,

It may be the valve clearance on one of the valves. it goes as the engine gets warm and starts to expand.
