FZS600 Fazer / Charge voltages
« on: 03 June 2012, 07:47:31 pm »
I recently had a flat battery. First ever lol but i think my regulator is dying. Does anyone know charging voltages lights on, lights off etc. Upon first investigation i found a burn mark on the plug of the regulator. This i have sorted by removing the offending pin. and replacing with a new one. But i'm not sure if my voltages are correct. Its a 2002 foxeye which if i have read correctly got stronger electrics to cope with the extra permanent dip beam.
Lights off  14.02v
Lights on  13.05v
Ign only  12.5v
Ign off  12.7v
Thanks in advance.

Try new plugs. I put in ngk CR9EK's by accident ( not paying attention) These have twin electrodes made an amazing difference to starting. No more churning over then spluttering into life. Hope this helps.

Get a haynes manual for a start. If the needles on the sliders are worn they will let more petrol through and that may cause the rich mixture.

Lol colour don't matter just dont't use tap water in ya bike. Use deminaralised water. The chalk blocks the tiny little waterways. :o

Michelin's all the way. Road pilot 2's were good 3's are better. A good example is one of my friends he goes the same way home from work every evening for years he used michelins. Early part of the year he changed maxxis tyres for budget reasons. a couple of weeks ago he slid and fell on a manhole cover that he has ridden over previously with the michelins and not even a twitch. No diesel involved he looked when he got up.

A bit random but have you looked at your fork bushes at all? if they are worn the bushes will move from side to side giving the appearance of judder just a thought. :)

Check your battery connections, clean all your earth tags and plugs. (wd 40 is good) If it still does it after all that cleaning it could be the first signs of your battery dying. My battery lasted a year after that problem then the winter killed it completely. but the cleaning helped lots.

Other advice would be. Strip them down clean and rebuild paying close attention to worn moving parts. such as jet needles, sliders and diaphrams. There are a surprising amount of moving parts in there. and always use a magnifying glass. The damage may be hard to see with the naked eye. My son had a small split in one of his slider diaphram and neither of us saw it until i magnified it. caused all sorts of problems. hope this helps.

Take the choke plungers out and get a magnifing glass and look at the rubber seal faces for wear or cracks. just because they move don't mean they "ain't" damaged !!!!

In a word yes. I did this to my son's bike "cos" his old tank grew a hole and the later one was all i could get at the time. The fuel level sensor is different so your fuel gauge will not be as accurate but the old sensor goes in after a fashion. The plug and wiring is different on the later tank sensor so you will need to use the old sensor. Hope this helps.

Try the multi relay in the side panel. It controls the starting and the fuel pump inc neutral light borrow another relay clean the plug, plug in the loan relay. if the problem goes buy a new relay. Hope this helps.

My collegue used to work for bt and he knows alot about computers and networking. He had them on the phone and made mincemeat of them. he asked them for their ip address and loads of other techinical stuff. This confused the scammer so much they hung up on him. He then got on to bt and told them. So i think they will be investigated if enough people complain about them.

Maybe your disks are warped!! Get a pencil hold it on the fork leg firmly. The point should be close but not touching spin the wheel if the pencil touches or the gap grows after its been set you may want to consider new disks.

Try looking under the seat at the back. A small white fuse holder on the left hand side (as you sit on it) That is the indicator / hazard light fuse. 10 amp i think hope this helps.

Tcp aerodynamics fairing lowers for the 02/03 fazer look awesome but very expensive. Jack up 25 mm improves handling. Braided brake hoses improve the feel of the brakes. A k&n air filter improves breathing. And last but not least a slip on end can makes it sound good. oh and you get to give your neighbours the hump at the push of a button  :D

Hein gerike do a fairly cheap semi synthetic oil.I have used this for years with no problem. I put a new engine in my bike in january after 71,000 miles on this oil ( changed regularly) but always used the same brand. My bike is used every day rain or shine and this oil has never let me down. Hope this helps.

An excellent idea! Saves most of the front of the engine from stones and other debris thrown up by the front wheel.
