« on: 02 June 2013, 05:21:20 am »
Ok, I am thinking of getting a Gen 2 FZ1S Fazer and was just wondering if any of you live in London? I'm 30 yrs old 2yrs NCD bike parked on drive! I have been getting stupid quotes of over £1000 for tpft no euro cover!

Just wondering if that is too high?

Think its going to be this one:

Just because I've looked at everything else in the price range and this ticks the right boxes. Do like that its oval too not round.

Will let the foccers know how I get on ofc.

Thanks for input.

Got one of these on my bike with the down pipes and all! Sounds REALLY NICE, never needed to take the DB killer out! Loud, but nice! Let me know how you get on mate!

FZS600 Fazer / Newbie experience of first time replaced rear tyre
« on: 06 September 2012, 10:38:58 am »
That's why I build speed and lean gradually and only progress further with said speed and lean once I am certain I know how much grip I have available at the previous speed and lean angles :)

Plus once you've scrubbed in a few set of tyres you get to know when the releasing agent (or whatever that glossy sheen on a brand spanking new tyre is) has been scrubbed off, then it's only a matter of heat in the rubber to provide the grip!

Newbies will learn this and probably will adapt their own comfortable way of making sure this process is completed to give confidence which only knowing how much grip you have available at any given time can give ;)

FZS600 Fazer / Brakes question
« on: 06 September 2012, 06:41:23 am »
Brakes, being arguably the most important system on the bike is something I don't mess around with! If there is even the slightest issue, i get it fixed! I did new braided lines and full caliper rebuild with new pads a little while ago and it's not that difficult! The blue spot caliper is so easy to clean and change the seals on, it really isworth doing! The difference is night and day! My bike only had  25k when I did this, so 68k and how many years since manufacture? Most manufacturers recommend replacing lines every 4 yrs anyway!

Hopefully with that all done, it should cure your issue! If in doubt, rebuild the master cylinder too :)

I have heard all these stories about slippery tires when new, and I think it's a bit of scare mongering ;) joking!
Common sense is the key here! If you lean it all the way over and try to full throttle with a new set of tyres you will lose the rear, similar with the front but main due to too much speed into corner with biggish lean! On a 600 with modern rubber on a dry day mild temperature, 20-30 miles and I have full confidence in the amount of grip available!

Numerous techniques help scrub in tyres, which I do religiously each new set!

1) accelerate and brake in a straight line gradually increasing harshness of throttle opening and pressure on front brake lever until your pretty much full throttle acceleration in first for a couple of seconds, then almost emergency stopping with the brakes! This does 2 things, generates heat in both tyres and scrubs the centre line of the tyres! Once you have confidence in how much grip is available whilst doing this, then move on to stage 2.

2) now tyres are warm, find a nice road with moderate flowing speed. Tip into first corner with very little amount of lean, and make sure your throttle is open and balanced to ensure good weight distribution and then accelerate out of the corner. Increase the angle of lean equally on both sides and gradually increase the harshness of your throttle openings as well! In about 20-30mins of riding this way, your tyres will be "scrubbed in" and ready for normal duties!

Now, I have never had an issue using these methods, but I am always cautious of new rubber until I know how much grip I have! Just remember to ride within your limits and use common sense you you will be fine!

I won't accept any liability should you crash whilst using the techniques described above, I am mearly sharing how I scrub my tyres in!

Good luck and ride safe always! :)

FZS600 Fazer / USD front end swap?
« on: 29 August 2012, 05:39:16 pm »
Has anyone heard of a late model R6 front end being mated to a box eye fazer? The reason I ask is that there are numerous options for the rear shock but I haven't seen many fork mods! There are a few guys on here with gen 1 1000's with R1 front ends and I wondered whether it was possible with the 600/R6?

FZS600 Fazer / None standard exhaust
« on: 24 August 2012, 11:37:25 pm »
I have just replaced my exhaust system with a full system from Delkevic and I didnt change the air filter, adjust the carbs or anything. It pulls harder and sounds great! So the answer is no! You don't HAVE to do any of those things your mates suggested when changing exhaust systems! :) especially mapping ;p

FZS600 Fazer / tire size for 120 fronts
« on: 24 August 2012, 11:27:43 pm »
Elk, the link at the top of the page is my thread and I can't recommend enough to reconsider your choice to go for a 120! I now have a 110 on my bike and it is seriously night and day between the two sizes! There is a lot of choice in the 110 sizes, I have Michelin Pilot Road 2's in the original spec and the bike handles a dream with more than enough grip and durability!

Been said before but it's your choice however my opinion is its the wrong choice to put a on a 120.

Good luck in any case

« on: 08 August 2012, 08:46:17 am »
I was surprised how upright the riding position is, i have not done any long runs yet so dont know how it will be, the bars are high and wide, certainly different from my vfr.

So far seems ok,, it feels faster as you are sat up more so hopefully slow me down.

Certainly comfy and fast as f--k. great awesome fun to open it out.The front wheel keeps coming up.haha :lol
Brilliant! I want even more now! :)

That is my dream bike, paint scheme and all! One I will be able to afford the insurance to own one! I currently ride a box eye 600 :)

Is the FZ1S comfy? As the riding position looks like dirt bike style (nuts on tank and knees up high)

Bwizz, I have to agree with that statement! 600 is great when is just me, but put a pillion on and talk about slow! Plus the rear shock is not cut out for two up!

Cracking bike otherwise! Would love to ride the thou tho! :)

General / New paint Job?
« on: 02 August 2012, 09:37:42 pm »
Hi Guys,

Thinking of a new paint job, possibly 50th Anniversary Red and White scheme, but i have no idea where to start with finding a trusted spray painter to do the work for me, without raping my wallet :'(  Any info or contacts would help heaps. I'm in SW London if that helps!

Cheers Guys!
