General / Arai Tour x4 price fix?
« on: 13 May 2014, 04:21:56 pm »
The brother has asked me to see if i can find a deal on a Arai tour x4. He is not very good at the internet thingy.

So i embarked on a search for a Arai Tour x 4 in mission black. After countless minutes i came to the conclusion that Arai must be telling the dealers not to discount their Tour X helmets. Every online site has the price fixed at £499 and not a penny less.

I have checked the usual big sites that came up on a google search, as a challange can anyone find a Tour x 4 Mission black or any multicolour for less than £499 which is  :eek  for a helmet anyway.

Ebike insurance state 365 days a year euro cover

Ok thats the insurance sorted now the mot. So i ride it out one year and ride it back the next year for the mot.

My problem is time and cash. It normally takes me around 3 days to get to the Alps or mid Germany from the North of Ireland then 3 days to get back so i have wasted a week already. I am looking to explore eastern Europe or even a bit of Russia. I could hire a bike but at £1000 per week limited mileage and £1000+ security deposit makes it all a bit unattractive.

Your insurance as stated is likely to be limited to only so many days a year. If memory serves me right Carole Nash will do longer cover but pretty sure it is not more than 90 days at one stretch.

How would they find out that it is not in the uk? Maybe if it was stolen from where it was stored it might get a bit sticky.

To actually think about keeping a bike in central Europe and jumping on a plane when you get cheap flights seems to me personally to be a bit daft, expensive bike /cheap flights?? If I was you I would check out bike rental surely that would be a better option for you?

I did check the price of renting a bike its around £130 per day most have limited miles and you have to leave a large security deposit. The bike is only worth 2k and with a bit of searching flights can be obtained for under £100.

Insurance and tax would not be a problem as i would insure it for 12 months to my home address and just tax it and sorn it as normal as well.

The only problem i see is the MOT if there was only some way to get around it. :evil

Looking at options to store my bike in central Europe. It would be nice to just jump on a cheap flight and be in the middle of Europe for a tour or even just a weekend blast.

1: If i store my bike i can still tax and insure it but what about the uk MOT?
2: If i register the bike in say Czech republic will it get complicated with a UK address
3: Is there any country that does not have a mot?
4: Anyone successfully got around these issues?

General / Alpine route help
« on: 11 June 2013, 09:32:30 am »
Looking for help in plotting a route across the alps east to west. I will be starting in Slovenia and looking to pop out somewhere in France.

Anyone done something like this before and kept their route?  There is a thousand alpine roads to choose from and my head is dizzy from looking at maps.

If it is a standard led it will need a resistor. I put a lower value resistor from the brake light and a higher value from the side light so it is on all the time but becomes brighter when the brake is applied.

General / Google maps & TomTom
« on: 26 February 2013, 12:34:36 pm »

Anyone know how to transfer a map on google to a tomtom rider? I like the way you can drag the route on google and it will pick up the roads to contiune instead of plotting loads of A to B's or waypoints.

""Been to France with the new "Camera" locations on my TomTom. to be fair though, fixed scameras are not really a problem if you have English Plates as they do not (at the moment) chase up on these tickets.""

Anyone know if any countries in Europe chase up fixed camera infringements back to the UK?

Coming from the NI ferry to Troon near Ayr. Not much time on the way over via Glasgow but could have a bit of time to kill on the way back for some nice roads.
