rear shock again more ideas

as some of you may know from earlier posts i had a shock rebuild done by a chap in scotland
i have to say that it was real good to start with and still a lot better than the old one, but me being me i am always wondering if there is a cheap alternative.
so this is where you clever sods come in especially kebab.
my theories so far
the rear shock on a fazer 600 is 300mm eye to eye and according to the hagon web site is the same as the xj900s diversion and xvs1100 both using the same spring rate. the xj900 i dont think has a suspension linkage and the xvs1100 is a far heavier bike.
so this makes me think that yamaha cocked up the aluminium linkage bracket on the fazer so it needed a far heavier spring than should be needed for a bike of this weight.
having scanned ebay and looked at a lot of other linkages the relationship of the 3 pivot points look different to those on the fazer.
so in theory a different shock with different linkage block and different length dog bones should give the same overall effect.
now the question is which one - look at these links to see what i mean

this would then mean you could use a longer shock

If you're suggesting installing a TRX850 linkage, I think that would be the start of a lot of difficulties.
It's hard to say for sure without all the measurements to hand, but I think you'd find the lower shock mount would be so far back the shock would foul the swingarm.

the trx was just an example it was more to illistrate that the 3 fixing points on the trx are more in a straight line where as the fazer ones are closer to a right angled triangle

if the replacement linkage has the 3 fixing points simular to the trx one then you should be able to use a longer shock possibly with a lighter spring.
