We don't have MOT's here in Ireland either. I wish we did, I like having someone independent checking over my bike every year in case I've missed something!

Cheers,

John

yes and no - the issue relates to compatibility of the download section software with the forum software version we are running - to go back will result in lost posts and other functions not working again.

The Mods are currently testing a new forum platform which has a download section and may better features than the SMF version we are using here. Once we have finished our testing we will get some of the users here to do some testing too and then migrate to the new software. At that point i will look at restoring the old software here to recover the downloads and move them to the new platform.

Tank breather rubber funnel.
Older bikes had rubber pipes coming from the tank metal pipes down to the lowest point of the frame with a breather pipe and excess fuel pipe.
Later models had this fitted instead so that the tank metal pipes just drop down straight into it, making things a bit neater and less chance of clogging up.

My old girl is not as good as that I did think about a light restoration, but I use it all year, so I slapped on some haemorrhoid paint instead

Can't believe that was done 11 years ago, but in fairness the paint has held up very well.

« Last post by darrsi on Today at 07:02:56 am »
It's just a screw that needs adjusting until you feel it touch the metal then back it off a quarter of a turn.
Ideally using a deep ring spanner to hold the locking nut while you adjust the screw.

No need to wrench up the locking nut mega tight either, it's just stopping that screw from moving so tighten the nut firmly but not OTT.

Undo it all from the top first, adjust the bottom end inner screw, then tighten it back up accordingly on the handlebar.

If it still misbehaves then i would guess you either have a worn or frayed cable, or a cheap/low quality one that most likely needs replacing for a half decent one. OEM is always the best option, but if you're on a budget i'd suggest a Slinky one from Wemoto.

If you end up taking off the casing on the left side where the clutch cable goes it is REALLY worth getting some spray grease inside it as it's full of ball bearings that very much appreciate some lubrication, as most people won't even realise they're in there. Any excess spray will just drip out especially if you keep moving/pumping the lever part where the end of the cable sits which you can move by hand. I personally spray white grease inside which seems to work fine and lasts a long time.
It will all make sense once you see it.

@Unfazed

Thanks,will pm you now. I've a few questions around drill bits, pressure/speed etc too.

(Trebus has already very kindly sent me the file,which I think is complete but no harm having having it straight from the horse's mouth as it were!)

@Fazersharp
Thanks for the info,will look it up.
The blue stuff (Loctite 2400 medium) is all I had to hand - thought it better than nothing at the very least.

New nut should be here on Tuesday/or Wednesday.

(along with Heed crash bars -€89 Inc free shipping, bargain! And a badly needed screen, anyone here gotten a screen from motorcyclescreens.eu? Polish crowd,hoping it's a good fit/quality,be a pain in the hole to send back)

It's gas,of the 3 bikes I've bought before, I've always done my research beforehand - reviews but especially KNOWN ISSUES...
I probably would have swerved off a Fazer had I have known about this(or at least pulled off the front sprocket cover...) but that being said, it's a cracking bike.

Looks great, lovely smooth engine with good midrange and surprisingly good fuel economy.

Brakes are excellent - I quickly rode my Versys after to park it up for sale and genuinely thought the hose's were busted! Absolutely terrible! Though that bike bike has very heavy engine braking in fairness and gets away with it but still...was shocked with the difference!

As good as the brakes are they do appreciate a bit of TLC to keep them functioning well.
I clean the pistons and calipers using brake cleaner spray (nothing else), and once the pistons are a bit further out than where they normally sit i'll put a light smear of red rubber grease on the exposed pistons before pushing them back in so the calipers can be refitted onto the discs.
Bit of an art to it but i've done it so many times now and have all the stuff to make the job easier that it doesn't take anywhere near as long now as it did when i first attempted it. It's just a clean up that will keep them sharper than ever, and i tend to clean them up before and after winter as i'm normally an all year round rider, and not only is the difference noticeable but it will save the brakes from seizing up over time which you really don't want, plus i strangely really enjoy doing the job and save myself a few quid in the process.  :lol

I broke it whilst fixing another issue we had - still trying to find a way of recovering it.
Do you have any backups? You should be able to restore it from the backup
