Title: First Crash
Post by: Macca4786 on 12 April 2015, 04:28:35 pm
Evening all

Had my first spill over the bank hols. Broken finger was all I got fortunately.
However the pride and joy is not looking great. Exhaust snapped off and my front fairing is slightly U/S.
Anyone got a front fairing kicking about or know of any breakers with them ?
Also did they do the 1998 Fazer in 2 reds. I don't know if it's just be but my bike looks a darker red than some I have seen??

Thanks in advance for any help

Not good news macca, but mick is selling/giving some stuff away in the for sale/wanted section, and I think someone else was selling a fairing in primer, have a look in there and even the older posts and just message the guys.

As far as I know there was not a 98 red made --- fullstop, only black, unless you have a 99 then im not sure

Macca, I think the colour code is under the seat on a panel, think if your's is darker than mine it'll be vrc7 maybe?

The 1998 model was available in red, black and I think gold. Model number 5DM1.
The 1999 model was a darker red, model number 5DM4, but could have been registered late 1998 I guess.
Hope you manage to fix it without too much hassle.

I always preferred the darker red ^.^

I had one until it's demise... might turn the blue / black one to red as ultimately I plan to re-spray it :)

Yeah under the seat it says 5DM4 070 so it's the 1999 red on an 1998 bike !
Can't imagine I shall be that lucky to get the right colour so will now look at spray painters in my area

You don't need them in your area, you can courier stuff to the right guys that can do your job at the right price.
You can get the 'fazer' stickers on the side too, think oldmotherfoccer is the one to ask.

There were 3 colours in the 98 Fazer, Red, black and yellow and they added silver as a fourth colour in 99

The 98 model red was Yamaha code VRC1, but the 99 red model was a slightly different colour and was coded VRC7

And went back to VRC1(Vivid Red Cocktail) for 2000, 2001 & 2003 models.
They used RYC1 in 2002, meaning Redish Yellow Cocktail

What letter is on the frame code?
is it A, B,  C or D

If it is a 98 then Red was A and if it is a 99 Red was C.

New model usually come out in late the previous year, what month was yours first register?

Think you'll need to find the actual colour code if your wanting an actual match, is there nothing on plate like 'VRC7' or 'RYC1'?

No, there won't be. Unfazed is right, the letter after 070 (or whatever) refers to the colour.

Yep, C denotes the colour. Give that code (the full code) to any Yamaha dealer and they can tell you what it should be, e.g. VRC1 etc. Probably can get it online these days?

You have got a 99 Red which is  Vivid Red Cocktail 7, VRC7

Your welcome macca, keep us posted of how your getting on and maybe you could post pics as you go along, also keep an eye on the for sale section as it'll probably be cheaper than going to fleebay and the likes.

That fairing doesn't look too bad... Deefer66 is a professional plastic welder - bung him a PM, might be cheaper having him fix it good as new!  :thumbup

No you didn't, you said there wasn't a red in 98.
And there was - I ordered one, till I realised the truth, and changed the order to the faster black one.

Some owners will believe everything the salesman tells them, he just told you the black one was faster just to get rid of it  :rollin :rollin :rollin

As long as he has the missing plastic bits, if not repair is far from easy.

Deefer's a pro.  ;)

But yes, missing bits helps. Deefer has repaired fairings brought to him in several shopping bags!

Most of the '98's i see are red, unfortunately they were quicker on the production line than they are on the road.  :lol
