Loz.......i was gonna suggest ill swap you for my Gen2 08....,but seeing as your issue is pain then that is t really advisable.
However...
May i suggest that you consider a smaller number such as a 600 or even the mighty MT07 which i fancy.....stay Jap and go small......with a smaller engined and smaller weighted bike will also come lighter handling and less hustling......thus less shoulder pressure.
In an ideal world the pro rider will put minimal pressure on their shoulders as they will have that cupping a daddylonglegs grip on the bars and use their weight and extreme skill and all that good shit.
But back in the real world then the rest of us will be forcing the bars too much and putting extra strain on the shoulders...it is easy done....i am honest enough to admit that i do it on my gen2 although im getting better but seriously you're a girl and so you've probably already got slightly less muscle mass & weight than a bloke of simillar stature and if you're doing the same as me then you'll feel it in the muscles.
Mr Crisp has a dodgy shoulder and he swears that the gen 1 fazer thou is the best for him ergonomically........perhaps he is denying himself the pleasures of the GS also but i think he generally hates that type of bike.
But relibility must come into it a bit.......your husband is gonna be a busy man on your GS by the sounds of things and even then it'll be off to the workshop...(how close is your nearest BMW dealer?)
Anyway you've got a nice bike there....dont regret flogging it....try some risers or Renthals, or try a smaller bike.
At the end of the day it might be an irrational urge that you have...maybe you already know that and dont give a foc.......in which case just tell us to foc off and cough up the dosh
