Enamel Stoving/Powder coat/ Smooth Hamerite

Time to refurb my center stand but what coating.
Whats the difference between Enamel Stoving.and powder coating, which is best for my use.
And then I read here that people have just gone down the Smooth Hamerite route which will be the cheapest Im guessing
Those who have gone down the Hamerite route -- how is the finish standing up to a few months/ years use.

Powder coated fella. Mine still looks ace after 2yrs of use.

I hammerited my old 600 stand before flogging it......it looked good but tbh it was still time consuming and factor in the paint cost then powder coat is the way forward as you just give it to someone else, more time for beer....and it should only be £15-£20.


If the wind and rain ever stops im getting the noggysaurusTRX into the garage and getting the swingarm and number plate holder powder coated.

That's what I was thinking, sand blast vs me on a bench grinder with a wire brush.
Has anyone put a hamerite painted thing in the oven to "cure it" ----- im sure someone here has done that.

I'd favour powder, like has been said, its a fairly cheap option, its tough ( I had to hammer a part powder coated once and it didn't crack or flake off) and would save a lot of messing about.

Lot of people complaining about hammerite these days, not what it used to be.

One option would be to just spray it with good old BBQ paint and whip it off every so often and re-coat it when it starts to look shabby or buy a paddock stand and throw it in the bin.

Powder coat seems the way to go then, I will check out some local people for some quotes.

Go for an industrial coater rather than a motorcycle specialist. Tend to be cheaper and if they shot blast in house even better.
Another worth looking into is epoxy. Had a frame, wheels etc sprayed gloss black for peanuts. Again at an industrial company. They just throw it in with everything else being sprayed so not much effort for them
