FZS 600 Speedometer.

Does anyone know if all 98-03 speedometers are exactly the same on all U.K. bikes?  Can the mileage be changed to the same as the one I have electronically?

So far as I'm aware they're the same. The newer ones have a clock on the instrument panel as well, but that shouldn't affect the rest of the wiring.
There is no easy way to change the mileage on the odometer. If you're handy with electronics you could feed externally generated pulses into it in place of the speedo pickup to simulate riding at speed which would (if run for the right length of time right) get you to the correct figure, but only if the odometer you've bought has a lower mileage recorded. You won't be able to wind the miles back that way.

no point putting more miles on it to get it back to it is now.


even worse if you buy clocks with more miles youd have to go forward till it loops round... unless it stops at 999999...

Clocks are different, theres two sizes of plug connector, I think I have both in the shed, I'll have a look tomorrow and post some piccies ...

I stand corrected, Red98 is right. Comparing the wiring diagrams it clearly shows the connector is different for the facelift version.

found them...later clocks have a 16pin smaller plug.early ones have 20 pin and no clock or re set button....hope this helps

I'm presuming all the boxeye clocks are interchangeable then? But you can't interchange with boxeye and foxeye?

Fully correct!

With some re-pinning of the connector newer clocks might also work on the older bikes. Fan control of the new clocks is not needed, dont know how the warning lights would behave.
Newer clocks are (almost) identical to the FZS1000, but will not work as the speed signal is in a different range.

But I do reckon I'd need to wire up differently too so would also need the connection plug at the back please.

No rewiring needed if you take boxeye clocks (I assume your bike is a boxeye?). Or do you have any other reasons for doing so?

Yes it's a boxeye I have...
Reason is I just want a clock, nothing exciting really

I'm the same, but still a bit confused on the rear plug now, there easy enough to remove the small clips and put them back into the new one, I've no problem doing that if the wires are just in a different place and you can use the older loom but with the newer connection block. Food for thought I guess
