Gathering
« on: 30 September 2011, 03:39:04 pm »
after the last one I said that was enough. the logistics of the supplies is just too much hassle due to the location of the venue. last couple of times I'd wondered about a change of location, so...

if the Gathering in the Glen was to stay alive, which part of Scotland would interest you?

not that I'm offering to carry on as organiser - cos I'd be more than happy for someone else to step forward.

Hows it gaun Gringo?  Done a trip to Applecross a few weeks back and it was a cracking trip, would be a good place for a gathering and you probably couldn't get any further away.  Campsite was great, heated wigwams were better, pub was magic food was top notch and the ride up was spectacular.
You go up ther lahtat then doon there lahtat then roon there lahtat and then up there lahtat then thats you right....cheers mate

no bad, hows yersen?
Applecross was one location I'd considered from the very start - distance was the inhibitor for the deep south foccers.

To beat the midge you need Avon - "Skin so soft" moisturising spray, keeps the midge away and gives you oh so lovely soft and moisturised skin!  :D
Money doesn't buy happiness, but it buys beer, and that helps!

Yeah applecross campsite is nice, not too close to the water to attract the flying devils, but close enough for the views :)
do be careful on the pass though, your pillion might slap you round the helmet (head) shouting about 'going back and taking a picture of that goat'
It wasn't a goat, it was a deer :\ we went back and spent far too long taking identical photos of it :)

Turning round on that pass = trusting to hope noone's going to come flying round the corners whilst you're doing a 5 point turn in one of the passing places  :lol

I know it's not the highlands, but there must be bunkhouse type set-ups somewhere around the A7?

Could head out to alot of different destinations from there..? Great road to begin with, access to the lakes & Yorks (I know that's England) for the sightseers..East coast runs to Berwick upon tweed for fish & chips, Edinburger for Castle storming, East Fortune for Flight Museum/track day and countless, "off the beaten track, stunning view type roads"

You could even squeeze in a day trip to Ireland for those who like long miles & longer days?? :eek

that would depend where it was Davey. if we picked a campsite with catering facilities like Applecross, or the Loch Broom campsite in Ullapool, or somewhere in Galloway then there'd be virtually no organising to do. just turn up, pitch your tent and off you go.

Gringo,  Bloke in the pub last night was talking about wigwams near Peebles, or was he just shooting a line as usual?

Personally - I would prefer not to camp and the idea of spending three nights in those sweaty Wigwams doesn't appeal either  - I will camp but like to know the weather is going to be dry and sunny!

Suggest the venue needs to be one which can be hired for sole occupancy, at a reasonable price, and in location that can be serviced by a supermarket delivery, similar to those I've found below after a quick search

One has to bear in mind that (and I know this from looking for alternatives for the spring meet) - as soon as you mention "motorcycle" a negative response usually follows.............

one near Dumfries:

There are others - I've got to go..............
