FZ6 / Fazer / Heated grips
« on: 26 December 2016, 03:27:17 pm »
Just ordered myself a set of heated grips, due to arrive in a couple of days and never had any before.

Where is best to wire the positive? Ideally would like to avoid connecting directly to battery to save killing it when I forget to switch them off.

Any FZ6'ers wired grips in easily and successfully?

Cheers!

Noticed what I thought was slight cam chain noise so removed CCT to check it.

Circlip holding the plunger in came off in my hand, took me almost an hour to get the bloody thing back together  :'(

Those cheap Fleabay jobbies are blob on.

Just ordered another one for the Mrs. Does everything we need it do and does it well.

If you want something better and compatible with other headsets, almost everyone I know raves about the Sena 20S.

Looks great, a huge improvement.

I keep thinking I should do mine but it would just make the rest of the bike look terrible  :lol

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Cam Chain Tensioner?
« on: 04 May 2016, 07:55:58 pm »
Well, had the chain tensioner out and all looks ok, feels like theres plenty of tension there and piston sliding in and out fine.

My noise almost definitely sounds like its coming from the top around the cam sprocket area. Could the cam chain be causing this or anything else around that vicinity that could cause a vibrating/clicky sound at around 3k-ish rpm?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

FZ6 / Fazer / Cam Chain Tensioner?
« on: 03 May 2016, 08:37:44 pm »
Had an annoying, tinny, buzzy type sound coming from the front end of my bike for a while now.

Checked all fairings, bolts etc and cant find anything loose. It does seem to happen more when its warm and at lowish rpms.

It seems to coming from around the camchain area but cant be certain so was possibly going to attempt to remove and reset the tensioner.

Is it an easy job to do on the FZ6? Cant really find much info about them on this model.

The bike is an 04 with over 30k on the clock but cant find any paperwork to say cam chain has ever been replaced or anything like that.

Any opinions?

Thanks in advance.

Been reading a lot of reviews and webpages on these and as far as I could tell, they only connect to each other.

Great for music, satnav, radio, talking to Mrs on the back.

Not so great for talking to buddies Im riding with who all splashed out on Sena kits and the likes.

Just ordered one of these for myself. Looking forward to having a mess around with it.

Still working well?

I still feel a little unsure about listening to music while riding as I like to know whats going on around me but Im sure I will get used to it.

Glad you found your culprit!

I have an annoying buzzing sound too and its getting right on my tits now.

Thought I had cracked it when I found the front indicator connector vibrating on inside of panel. Bit of electrical tape around it and it seemed to have disappeared for a few miles....

guess not lol

I was the same mate. First chain I have done too and I was adamant it was going to split when riding.

200 miles later and it hasn't shifted. We need to start trusting our handywork more  :lol

MOT just done on Friday with no printed advisories.

Guy recommened new chain and sprockets so back end stripped ready for parcel arriving tomorrow!

I've just ordered a set too, let me know how it goes as this'll be the first time I've actually changed a chain on a motorbike, yes I know it's totally disgraceful with all the years riding I've done :lol

Was a nice real easy job surprisingly! Make sure you have a chain riveting tool handy for the final link as I never  :lol

Took me longer to clean all the crap from the casings and re-allign the rear wheel than it did to do the job itself!

I was also hoping that a new correctly tensioned chain would help to eliminate some of the typical Yam gear change clunk, but, nope....

Stripped the rear end down and gave it a good clean, also greased the swing arm bearings all ready for the new chain and sprockets that were delivered today so I'll fit them tomorrow.
By foc was the front sprocket hard to come off! Bit what do you expect after 18 yrs and 28,400 miles :lol

Oh the 4th pic is of my new rear shock spring but can't figure out how to get it replaced as I can't remember where my shock spring tools are :( so that'll need to wait till another time I guess :(

Nice! Nothing better than getting your hands dirty :)

Luckily i didnt have to remove my swingarm (probably should have though...)

Think I got quite lucky as front sprocket nut looks as though it was changed at some point so wasnt too tight at all.

Did you check tool pouch under your seat for shock spanner?
