Hi All,

Does anybody has used JT Z1R super heavy duty gold chain, any feedback about the quality and how many miles I can expect from it? Does it stretch too much in time?

Do you reckon it is better than Tsubaki Alpha XRG chains? Tsubaki Alpha is rated for 20k miles.

General / rear axle nut and pivot bolt grease?
« on: 25 June 2015, 12:25:50 pm »
Hello,

what grease and where do you grease when assemble rear axle?

Do you reckon I should use copper like this one or white like RG2 grease?

And where do you grease? I mean the whole pivot bolt without the threads, the two axle spacers all over them, both sides of the washer and internal side of the axle nut?

When I grease the nut side and than tighten some grease may go on the threads?

I am confused because some sources actuallty recomend greasing the threads including nuts.

http://www.dansmc.com/bolts2.htm

Some of them say to use copper some white grease?

As copper grease neither runs nor gets washed off very easily, it is ideal for coating screw threads and adjusters to form a non-corrosive barrier.

General / good cheap grime and dirt cleaner?
« on: 18 June 2015, 06:02:24 pm »
Hello,

I am sick of paying a lot of money for expensive grime and dirt cleaners.

I have used in the past Castrol and it is good bike cleaner. Have read very good reviews about SDoc100. Have used plenty of WD40 for cleaning.

The problem with these is they are expenisve like hell and frankly I am sick of paying £5-£10 pounds for 500ml cleaner.

Any ideas for homemade or possibly cheap kitchen cleaner that will do the same job for lot less?

I will try soon oven foam cleaner have read very good reviews for using it to remove grime from car engines.

Here is my list to try, feel free to add any homemade ideas.

Note do not like idea of puring large ammounts of diesel fuel in the drains. If you have anything that is cheap and nature friendly that would be great.

FZS600 Fazer / What have you done to your FZS600 bike today
« on: 13 June 2015, 11:18:27 am »
Changed my oil  today. Bought:

17mm spanner.

3L Sykolene Comp 4 10w-40 Synthetic ester based 4-stroke engine oils for all high performance motorcycles.

Hiflo filtro Performance Oil Filter - HF-147

Bike It Oil Pan

And Oil filter wrench 68mm 14 flutes 1-STEP FOR 3/8" to change my oil.

First time I do that on a Fazer and it has been some time till I figure out how to get the old filter out in between the hot exhaust pipes  :'(

Have not bought the torque wrenches yet so tightening has been based on good old common sense. Hope no kittens will be killed  :lol

FZS600 Fazer / stuck rear wheel drive hub
« on: 13 June 2015, 01:13:28 am »
Hello,

I am trying to check the dampers on my rear  wheel.

And cannot remove the rear sprocket coupling. It is stuck. In the parts catalog that is called rear wheel drive hub. Haynes manual calls it rear sprocket coupling. There are 6 drive hub dampers I want to check.

Any help is appreciated. Am I missing something?

I have removed the rear wheel and the sprocket coupling is supposed to get off. It is stuck, I mean like welded stuck. I have tried gentle hammering.

Any ideas?

cheers

General / what torque wrench
« on: 08 June 2015, 11:05:36 am »
Hello All,

my old cheap torque wrench is not clicking anymore. Probably can be fixed. However I would like to buy a new one.

What torque wrench will you recommend? I mean one that has good quality, do say 20-120nm and will not brake the bank if such one exist  :lol

FZS600 Fazer / front sprocket part number question
« on: 06 June 2015, 01:57:23 am »
Hi All,

My service manual and Yamaha part finder http://parts.yamaha-motor.co.uk/ypec_b2c/

say the front sprocket for my 2003 5RT4 model is: 4TV-17460-00

Fowlers part finder says different number?

3HE-17460-00

Any idea which one I should buy?

thank you

cheers

Hi All,

here we go. I have bought nice 2003 Foxeye. Today I have measured the chain and 10 links are 160mm. The manual says anything over 150mm it is time to do a chain change. Not too bad because I will go for some sprocket tooth change too.

I usually do simple stuff like pads change. But I am lazy and if I can find good Yamaha garage around me for a decent price probably I will avoid the whole chain/sprocket change hassle and pay a mechanic to get dirty.

Found this nice article how to change it, but the guy has lost me on regreasing the bearings. I am lazy and do noot like grease. Not a good combination for a chain change scenario.

Do you guys know what would be the time in hours that mechanic will charge for a FSZ600 sprockects and chain change? And how much would be the hourly rate in £££?

Finally if you can recommend me any good garage that you have used around Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, Oxfordshire?

thank you

cheers

FZS600 Fazer / deep cleanng front sprocket cover gasket question
« on: 30 May 2015, 12:33:42 pm »
Hello,

I just bought 2003 Foxeye. Aparently there is a gasket on the front sprocket cover. Do I need to change it each time I remove the cover to deep clean the sprocket and the chain?

If yes where do you buy cheap ones?

cheers
