Might be buying an MT-09 Tracer so my beloved Fazer will be up for sale. '04 plate 31K miles. All original (apart from a sports rack but I have the original grab rails). Need a good deposit so generous offers appreciated. MOT'ed 1 week ago. No advisories. Good to go for a summer of hedge blasting. Located in North Yorkshire (as are all the best roads).

When starting from cold, choke on, centre stand, my back wheel spins all by itself in neutral. You can stop it easy enough by hand / foot. Stops once it's warmed up a bit. Is this normal?

So, having been told I have a snapped EXUP (inner) cable I've sourced a repair kit from Venhill.
I am assuming that I can replace the inner cable without having to take the whole valve assembly out, but I cannot find any documentation of the top end of the cables and how to remove them.
Any clues please ? Tips & Tricks ?

Nice sunny day today. Not too cold. Of course today I had to do a blinkin' long journey in the cage. It's tomorrow when I'm taking the bike in for a service & MOT. ...tomorrow, when it is going to be hissing down and freezing.

You chaps are usually not short of opinions, so...
I was thinking about getting some paddock stands for my Gen 1 Thou.
I can do most routine checks, etc. just with the centre stand, but I was planning on cleaning the down pipes, servicing the EXUP and potentially getting the wheels spruced up over the winter.
So is it worth investing in a pair of paddock stands or not ? If so, what paddock stands out there are ideal for the Thou please ?

Went down today. 2.5 hours there. 2.5 hours back. 2.5 hours at the show. Went with the express hope of getting a test ride (or two) but I was about 80th in a queue for (what turns out was) 55 places. Gutted.  Still, nice to see loads of bikes and sat on quite a few. Most seemed to lean way forward. Best bike ...was at home in the garage. Ho hum.

Finally admitted defeat and decided to get a new battery.
Darned thing has been on (trickle) charge for 3 weeks and all I get is clicks from the solenoid (?).
It was showing 12.7V with no draw and 12.2V with the ignition on. Hitting the start button took it down to about 4V and then it was down to 11.7V.
Could it be anything else ?
Where's the best place to get a battery and what should I expect to pay ?

Slightly off-topic as it involves cars but could so easily have been a bike. I'm in a queue of traffic waiting at lights. I can see a car trying to pull out of a car park on the left. There is a gap. On the right is a lane for turning right and their light is green. Matey boy in his warm hatch comes down at normal pace 30-ish and car on the left pulls out across both lanes. Cue lots of squealing tyres and a slew across the lane. Narrow miss. Both parties off to Sketchleys. Whose fault if there had been an accident ? Couldn't bare to think what would have happened if either party was a bike.

Was pootling to work this morning and filtering into slow traffic off a roundabout. Got past an Audi but he got a bit feisty so I relented and let him past like a good citizen. Then woman behind decides she wants to muscle past and tries to run me off the road, gesturing & mouthing as she went. I got past again and sat in the centre of the lane to prevent any further obstinance, but then promptly stalled and had to pull over to start the bike. Eventually carried on my merry way. I have footage of it but not sure I should try and get her prosecuted or not. Thoughts ?

Went out to fill up and ended up with a knackered bike. Filled up. Parked up. Went to start it again (might have confused it with the alarm). The hazards came on. Tried the hazard switched, no joy. Switched off, armed the alarm, disarmed and it started OK, but the hazards stayed on - all the way home. Recycled and got the hazards oiff but now it won't start and i just get a clicking from under the seat. I've removed all the relays and the ECU. And this is after fully charging the battery at the weekend. Boo hoo. Please help ? DBo.

I noticed in a recent pic (and elsewhere) people put their prized crash helmets on seats, mirrors, etc.
Having lost a custom painted (motor racing) helmet to the tarmac after it blew off the boot of the car I have always tried to stick to - "If it's not on my head it's on the floor" - on the basis that it is difficult for it to fall off the floor.
Any views ?

Showing my age here, but I did the STAR rider training when I was a young fresh faced yoof. They had a mnemonic(?) for pre-ride checks but I'm jiggered if I can remember what 'T' stood for. Anyone remember that far back ?
B - Brakes
O - Oil & Fuel
L - Lights
T - Tyres & Wheels?
S - Steering

Successfully tested my crash bungs today.  They did a cracking job but ... now I need to replace one of them. They are Motrax DHMs and have a (roughly) triangular plate that bolts through the frame. Troiuble is the plate is bent. i don't want to straighten it as i think it will be weaker. Any ideas where I might get a plate / kit ? Thanks, DBo.

Please can I gather some opinions ? My '04 Fazer 1000(S) likes a handful of throttle to start from cold.
Call me picky but I like things to start 'on the button'. I don't want to be having to put in throttle to get the bike started (from cold, choke out).
Is it something that needs adjusting or do I just need to accept that's how it is ?
BTW, pre-start blip didn't seem to help.

Hi,
Haven't ridden a bike since I was a teenager and just passed by CBT & DAS. So I did the natural thing and went out and bought a 2004 Fazer 1000.
Looking forward to some spring / summer / autumn days out in the Dales.
