FZS600 Fazer / Fuel gauge sender orientation
« on: 15 April 2016, 06:15:04 pm »
This may seem like a daft question but does the float in the tank hinge front to back or side to side in the tank ?

Took it out the tank some time ago and now can't remember which way it fits.

Also does anyone have a photo of the underside of the tank showing the wiring leading to the URL gauge sender as its location will help get it in the correct way.

I think you are being hoodwinked on the safety properties of motorcycle gloves in the event of an off particularly winter ones which are basically ski gloves with leather palms .
Knock yourself out if you feel better paying lots for the latest alpine stars model ( been there and done that), but when you are realy bored one day take a close look at the palms of your "safety" motorcycle gloves and think how long it will last skidding across the road surface.
My choice of glove is not about being tight - it is because what is on the market is rubbish and over priced .We are marketed gloves that look like a gladiator should wear them a yet in truth other than knuckle protection they offer no more protection than a decent work glove  and certainly little protection in an off as it was put earlier.

I recently have been try a different approach which is working well so far - diving gloves!

But what protection would they give if you have an Off?

Bike glove give just about no protection when you fall off - the palm leather is usually wafer thin . The armouron the knucles and fingers is for FOD hitting your pinkies when holding the bars.
The dive gloves are either 3mm or 5mm crushed neoprene which is tough as old boots and it gives quite a bit of padding over the knuckles . I think they would give better protection when sliding down the road

Priority for me in winter gloves is comfort and functionality (easy to get on and off) over road rash protection .

I don't wear them as under gloves - that would defeat the point of wearing an unlined single layer glove ,  that is what makes them so user friendly !

I have issues with winter gloves , I have rheumatoid arthritis and struggle with bulky gloves and also have a nightmare with the lining pulling out when they get damp .
I recently have been try a different approach which is working well so far - diving gloves! ...... They are single layer and waterproof and hands are toasty

I'll be there on my other bike (unfaithful tart I know!) and camping there as I can't afford the hotel costs which is pitched at Harley owners!

« on: 18 June 2015, 03:12:57 pm »
I have got rethal low and I like them ( I'm 6'4") I think they are like the originals for height - you should not need tape if you take your time filling and leave the tiniest bit of the stud ( the bit you are filing off) which will pinch against the bar .

Don't drill the bars just use a small file to remove the small lug in the throttle housing - it take a few minutes and then you can put the throttle housing in any position you want on any bar

The  screen in the photo below is an airblade double bubble dark smoke - I'm 6'4" and it take a lot of the blast away , its not like siting on a Pan or a Goldwing - but you're not are you !

My clutch slips a bit when the engine is cold and I gun it - seems to sort its self out when its warmed up , I think its to do with the type of oil .

The surge of power at 7k is the party piece of the bike - plodding  dependable commuter keeping it under 7k -racer chaser keeping it over 7K!

« on: 04 June 2015, 05:27:17 pm »
Thanks Mr Dog - it was purely practical for a winter bike and the mat rattle can is the only one I have found to be petrol resistant for the tank. I also added TDM gators on the forks last time I did the seals to keep the Scottish winter (and salt) out.

It was not my intention to give the bike a 'look' but I have to confess it does look good and is a very practical bike now I have done most of the popular mods - ( sprocket nut, braided pipes, front and rear suspension upgrades, double bubble screen , foxeye mirrors, better pegs, shortie adjustable levers, rental bars, stainless steel exhaust system with cut down scorpion can,  hugger and a bigger late model tank).

Shit that looks like a lot when you write it down - but Ive had the bike a long time and cant bring my self to sell it , hence it new role as shite weather/ winter hack.

Well my 600 is still going - bit of a winter commuter now but still going strong, its been streetfightered and back again  and is now painted 'easy clean no polish black'

I'm 6'4" and 20 stone - bike copes with me no problem and I thrash it within an inch of its life.
I did find the back suspension was a bit soft and upgraded to the 1000 shock ( which was the "in" conversion at the time) and I also put progressive springs and heavy oil up front .

It a great bike with plenty of legs but aint ever going to handle like a sports bike in the bends.

It was ace . I met some great people and ended up riding all the way down from North Scotland on my wee 600 fazer as I stuffed my big bike the weds before!
As ever the fazer never missed a beat even riding down for 8 hours in heavy rain - some times I forget how good this bike is , I tend to use it as my winter bike these days but I had a hoot riding it down.

« on: 13 March 2014, 12:47:01 pm »
R1 foot pegs are too small (short at the cam end) for the stock fazer 600 bracket (and angles wrong too) - I guess if you got the peg and mounting bracket you could mod it to fit but the bracket is nothing like the mounting on a fazer.

Not saying it doesn't work I am saying we know they will probaly fail or break and if we know you can bet your ass Suzuki know too!

Definiton:
 - Planned obsolescence or built-in obsolescence   in industrial design is a policy of planning or designing aproduct with a limited useful life, so it will become obsolete, that is, unfashionable or no longer functional after a certain period of time

Not dumb - built in obsolescence - most of the original V-Stroms rode out the show room and that was the last the dealerships saw them , this bit of flawed technology (sorry thou owners) is a sure fire way of seeing plenty of return trips (probably just after the warranty runs out) .
Wow aren’t I cynical this time of the morning!

« on: 11 January 2014, 09:21:06 am »
Yes that do - I have a late fox eye on my 98 box eye . It does make the fuel gauge a bit hit or miss ( but they are anyway) as the tank is a bit bigger.
Its the second one I have fitted and never had any problems ( other than some one rearranging the last one with a pickaxe handle).

Hey Ponkster, what machine is that. Mahoosive is an understatement?

Mickey

It is a Gaggia that was rebadged as a Visacrem for the Spanish market when Gaggia lost the rights to their name in Spain for a short time due to a copyright cock up.

Yep its big and not the most efficient way to boil water - its a labour of love.

I found it in a skip , and after speaking to its previous own set out on a massive task of restoring it to its original kitchen.

To say I love it is an understatement , if I had a fire in the house I would be going backin to get it , if I had the strength after that I wold go back in for the family! lol

I have to admit to being a coffee bore - good coffee is usually down to a good selection of beans and a good clean machine .

The machine choice is not as important as you would think but any thing that uses pods is very restricting on coffee choice and in reality it's nothing more than liquid instant coffee , but is easy to make!

As you can see from my machine I have got the coffee thing bad!

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Short Stem Rear Indicators
« on: 10 December 2013, 07:34:51 am »
Front indicators would work - the wiring should reach and its no big shake to extend if it don't.

I to fitted shorter indicators to use paniers - I got some fairing convertor plates that fill the large holes the stock indicators create and fitted some generic arrow head ones which I picked upon ebay for much cheapness

I'd really like a fork up grade and would love to know which USD forks and yolks have been fitted by people in the past to FZS600 s
