For Sale & Wanted / Gen 1 Fazer 1000 bits
« on: 01 September 2015, 03:19:49 pm »
Thought I would offer these spares to the foccers before eBaying them.

Forks with yokes, they are in perfect condition with no pitting or leaks, all the adjusters are free. However the stem is missing due to it having been used on my R1 fork conversion. £120
Supersprox tri-metal rear sprocket, brand new in box, standard 44 tooth. £25
Standard rear shock in excellent condition no pitting or leaks, still has gas pressure, an underrated item in my opinion. £15
Hyperpro spring for above shock good bit harder than standard, a few scratches due to fitting £15
Hagon front fork progressive spring kit, about 10% harder than stock, comes with fluid and instructions never used. £25
Pair of standard rear indicators £10
Front mudguard, excellent condition £20
All above parts are from a 2002 model
Would prefer buyer collects from West Yorkshire, or could post at buyers expense. Phone 07989380888 or 01484 530441

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: What Bar Ends
« on: 22 January 2014, 11:43:13 am »
Drilled & tapped my shortened Renthals, then put on cheap alloy bar ends. What vibration? Not a believer in weights, the ones under the rear footrests, & the one behind the left heel guard are equally pointless.

Thanks guys, think I will just keep cleaning the engine as the extenders are a bit ugly. Don't think anyone makes one for an early R1 anyway.

Just fettled my exhaust down pipes and re sprayed the front of the engine on my Gen 1, looks mint.I want to keep it this way so thinking of fitting a fender extender, the problem is the bike has an R1 front end, think its a 99 mudguard. Cant seem to find one to fit. Anyone else done this mod? and will the extra drag affect performance? especially when doing wheelies.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: FZS1000 and a Beowulf can
« on: 03 November 2013, 02:49:49 pm »
Got a Beowolf can on my full monty ivanised FZS 1000 there is no noticeable performance difference with the baffle in or out. The bike is verging on the antisocial with the baffle in and embarrassingly loud with it out.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Removing rocker cover
« on: 03 November 2013, 02:42:29 pm »
Just checked the valve clearances on my bike and couldn't get the cover off without removing the water pipes. They are held in by the cap screws as you described. The pipes can be difficult to remove due to corrosion, expect a certain amount of crud to fall into the camshaft housing when you remove the cover, had to clean mine out with rags and a vacuum tool. The pipes are quite difficult to re-install, best done with some grease and a twisting action.
Good Luck

Well I have hit 65 and still thrashing the Fazer thou, want another 15 years out of it yet, feel a bit guilty using my heating allowance for new tyres though. When I fit a new chain or brake pads  I always think  " It should see my time out"

Check out my Beowulf. Reasonable price, beautifully made, fits better than stock. Downside is it's a bit loud even with removable baffle in, it's stamped road legal though. The big bonus is it weighs 3 Kg less than the stocker.

Can't believe you would sell a bike because you are 54, didn't buy my gen 1 untill i was 59. 6 years later i am still thrashing it and loving every minute.

I have fitted braided hoses to 4 different bikes because they look good and are light. I have never noticed any difference in feel or    performance over stock brakelines, think it's a bit of a myth myself.

General / Re: Chain Cleaning
« on: 13 August 2012, 07:11:18 pm »
I'm sure that mix of chemicals will bypass the o rings and de-grease the chain internals, probably degrade the o rings too. Stick to a rag soaked in WD 40. Got 25000 miles from my last chain and sprockets.

Looks interesting, but how do you set the correct tension?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Exup theory
« on: 07 May 2012, 08:47:06 pm »
The following theory was expounded following the consumption of several pints of real ale (Stella) in my local hostelry. The exup valve causes back pressure at low (sub 5000) rpm engine speeds, this in turn prevents unburnt fuel from exiting the exhaust due to valve overlap. At high rpm there is no time for the incoming mixture to get to the exhaust valve. This is the reason for the exceptionally good fuel consumption of my Gen 1, and a good reason for not removing the exup. Any comments most welcome.

Definitely 36mm I had to go buy one yesterday. I jammed the back wheel and got a metre long wrench on it. Guess what? it was only finger tight, thank god for the tab washer. It was the original sprocket, only done 25000 miles it was well worn out.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Ally bar ends question
« on: 19 April 2012, 07:45:44 pm »
Got light alloy bar ends on my gen 1, at the same time i changed to Renthal alloy bars. Thers is absolutly no difference in vibration levels. Think the alloy bars have a tendency to dampen out the vibes though.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Throttle Problem
« on: 27 March 2012, 06:29:59 pm »
Had the same problem with my 02 Fazer 1000.,found it really difficult to get out of corners smoothly. Since fitting a full monty Ivans kit the problem has gone and now it's a delight to power out of bends from a closed throttle position. This is a massive benefit in the wet.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Front tyre worn before the rear?
« on: 27 March 2012, 06:22:53 pm »
Knew as soon as i saw the title that you would be on 21's. I am now on my 3rd set on my Fazer 1000, love the handling and usually get 5000 miles from a set, they are the only tyres i have had where the front and rear wear at the same rate, cant say that bothers me though. the handling goes off rapidly afer about 4500 though, going to try something different next, probably Maxxis as i retire soon and will be looking for the budget option, been spending my heating allowance on tires for the last couple of years.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: ais removal
« on: 11 March 2012, 06:27:19 pm »
Can't imagine anyone re-fitting an AIS, throw it in the bin, buy an 8mm tap & a small chuck type tap wrench. No drilling required as the holes are ok for tapping. Pop in four 8mm stainless cap screws job done. If i ever see a Fazer with the AIS fitted i assume the valves have never been checked as who on earth would re-fit it?

Think i will take my Gen 1 to Jordans, as it's close to me. What do they charge for a dyno run? Just full monty Ivanised mine along with modifying the inlet rubbers. Did a test run on Friday & quite honestly couldn't feel much difference, starts better though. The thing always feels like a rocketship anyway on my first ride of the year after driving an old diesel focus all winter. I will be gutted if i don't get 135 bhp.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Mirrors with built in indicators
« on: 08 February 2012, 08:33:39 pm »
Has anyone tried fitting mirrors with built in indicators to a Gen 1? I have seen these on a few modern bikes & think they look good. This of course would leave some nasty looking holes in the fairing, which is one more problem to overcome. I'm running out of mods to do now & need another project. So if anyone knows of any mirrors that fit i would be grateful for the info.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / R1 forks/centre stand
« on: 22 December 2011, 10:00:34 pm »
Thought i was getting weaker with age. I was having difficulty getting my gen 1 on the centre stand, after about a month of struggling i realised that the R1 forks were the problem, with the front end sitting 20mm lower than stock it makes it much harder to pull the bike back on to the stand. Problem solved by rolling the front wheel on to a 20mm thick piece of wood prior to attempting the act. Luckily i always use the sidestand when out of the garage.
On a different subject, and i realise this will be heresy to some foccers, i have been looking at the frame and thinking it looks a bit archaic. Got to wondering what alloy beam frame i could fit, guess an R1 would fit everything else on the bike. As one of my friends pointed out "why don't you just buy an R1 take the fairing off and put some high bars on" it's got me thinking.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: What's going wrong with my chain wear
« on: 02 December 2011, 07:04:48 pm »
The alloy rear sprocket could be the problem, in my experience they are only really suitable for competition use where they changed on a regular basis. Used to have one on an MX/enduro bike, it wore out in about 200 miles. The alloy ones with the steel outer ring are much better.
