For Sale & Wanted / FZ1n gen2 screen
« on: 27 February 2017, 08:26:35 pm »
Hi, I am after a tall-ish screen for my FZ1n. I did have one but it took a fall in the garage (off the shelf as only use when touring) and it shattered the plastic. I have the small fly-screen which is in use on the bike mostly but would like to replace the taller "touring screen" I had.
Cheers all

Hi all, I'm after a L/H mirror for my FZ1N. Bike had a bit of a tumble while in the Picos Mountains & the mirror smashed.
Has anyone junked their mirrors for after market ones & they want the sell them?
Apologies if I don't reply straight away as still in Spain & back on ferry in the morning.

I've just about toured in all the European countries so far & not altered or used any head light conversation aids. Think my naked FZ has just an even spread of light not like cars, but I'm really not sure.

I replaced my spark plugs on my FZ1n last year. You only have to disconnect the top radiator mount & swing the radiator down, with much fiddling you can replace the spark plugs.

Right-oh, been a while since I posted last.
Thank you for your comments sadlonelygit, I'm sure your just a misunderstood soul that has a brick like compassion. DHW
Finlay the German authorities wrote to me in English after I requested them to do so. In the letter they kindly asked for my licence to be posted to them so they CAN ENDORSE IT....! Several letters later they were just happy to receive a PHOTOCOPY of my licence & have issued the ban on their system for 1 month with the warning that if I'm caught driving on their roads while the ban is in place I'm in for the high jump.
The DVLA has stated that it has no future plans to share UK information with any foreign government, we shall wait & see.

Hope this information helps anyone out.

Update for anyone interested...

I have emailed "Ride" magazine who I subscribe to, for their opinion on this, they have advised me to contact the DVLA as that is who holds the info on our licences. I did so & a very informative chap said that no foreign country can endorse a UK licence & if the foreign authorities ask the DVLA they will not pass on info to them. He said that he has no information on this ever changing, basically if you offend in the foreign country it stays there.
Armed with this information & also further advised by "Ride" I have wrote a letter to the German driver agency saying that; I have paided their fine for the offence & since leaving Germany in May I have not used their roads since, so have endured more than a month ban that they wish to endorse my licence with. I have also stated that the DVLA have stated that no foreign country can endorse a UK licence. Also as a foot note I have asked them to write to me in English as I do not speak or read German. Then I have "Google Translated" the lot into German.

It was posted yesterday (15/01/2016) & will see what happens with that...!

Very good 'hotmetal' that made me chuckle... yeah I think they will be making me revert to the "shanks ponies"... Next letter I will do something about it as last one was missplaced (through the shredder).
Think the confusing part is that the patrol officer said that it was only a fine & that once paid the matter was closed. Bet the gestapo at head quarters had different ideas once they processed the paper work...!

I still have the Google translate text I did & here it is in German:-

& googled translated:-

as you have been informed, is against a legally binding penalty notice with an effective ban before. They have, despite repeated still exists. We therefore ask again to, send their driver's license immediately to the central fine point so that the ban can be accomplished. We point out that the central point penalty the appropriate law enforcement agency of the relevant border crossing via the existing ban informed, so that your license fee is seized at a border crossing. It is therefore in your own interest to make our request without delay.

Somehow I don't think it's a refund, but if any of you chaps can tell me different please do! I will gladly take the 200€ back & spend it in Portugal..!

Think I will have to take some action on the next letter, like one or two of you have said better to get it done with now while I've no plans to return this year.
Think I will have to reign it in from now on as the European wide enforcement will come into force at some point..!

Thanks for all the info guys. I have sadly misplaced the last letter from Germany, think I last saw it passing thro the shredder... D'oh!
Maybe I will send off my licence with the next letter, not before I've got a replacement licence from the DVLA & send off the older one to Germany then if it doesn't return won't matter too much.
I'm steering well clear of Germany for now & maybe in 2017 as well..!

Oh & yeah the speed got a bit silly, Romantic Strassa indeed!

Hi all, I toured through Germany last year & in a hasty moment I got folling a fast German plated VW golf who looked like he knew the road. In this few miles of madness I got the feel of the long arm of the German law. The car driver got a fist full of paper work & a very sheepish look on his face. Both my mate & myself got a on the spot fine & a ticket to show our offence.
200€ lighter we continued on with the rest of the tour & forgot about it. Being it now 8 months on & after getting the 3rd letter from the German authorities I decided to use Google translate to see what the letters were about. After the online translation it seams the German authorities are still awaiting my license to be sent to them for a ban to be implemented (like that's going to happen) & I will be apprehended if I cross onto their border..!
Has anyone encountered this with the German law?
Goes without saying my 2016 tour is going no where near German soil, Spain & Portugal here I come..!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Under Seat Space.!
« on: 08 January 2016, 07:19:01 pm »
Sorry I did write a full article but some how it's been cut down..! The question is that I have the FZ1n-ABS & it has an electrical unit under the rear seat where the tool kit would fit. Has anyone relocated this unit to make room for more under seat storage? I was thinking of moving the electrical unit to the side of the seat fairing & was wondering if anyone has done this mod?

Hi all, I have a 2008 FZ1n-ABS, I have owned the bike for the past 6 years now & still enjoy every ride I do on it. It is at present tucked away in the garage awaiting the coming of Spring & the on coming better weather!
I have use the bike to tour Europe several times & done plenty of UK miles to boot. My only gripe is the lack of under seat storage the bike has. The compartment that looks to house the tool roll has a electrical unit (I presume to be the ABS control?) has anyone relocated this unit to a new location, I was looking at if it could fit in the side panel of the seat area. Just throwing the question out there to see if anyone has done like-wise?

Cheers, Neill

« on: 18 December 2015, 04:20:56 pm »
Hi, I have a FZ1n ABS & have fitted a centre stand no problem. All the mounting points were there to bolt onto, only 1 bolt hole was used for the ABS cable so had to re-route that cable.
Centre stands are a "blessing" on long tours when chain lubing is needed.

Hi, my garmin is wired upto my rear light (+) with a in-line fuse & earthed to a nearby frame screw using a "scotch block" for the live feed from the rear light. I used a car type cigarette lighter socket hid in the space in the fairing at side of the rear seat. I ran the mini USB cable under the tank & upto the yolks where my Satnav mount is. The cigarette socket has now been replaced by a garmin voltage converter as the Slovakian bad weather got into the lighter socket & blew the plug.

To throw my penny into the equation, on my gen 2 I have used Dunlop roadsmarts which were superb then swapped to roadsmart 2 which were not so good on the feed back but lasted a lot longer (they're still in my garage part worn). The next replacement was back to the original roadsmarts (these took some sorcing as was out of production by now). Last year I used metzeler interacts Z8's which were good & wore well. I am a fairly quick rider (I think..!) I do at least 1 big euro tour each year of about 3000 miles plus weekends up & down the country & did a track day at Cadwell on the original roadsmarts.
This year I may try the new Bridgstone T30 or give the Metzeler's another go.. Will do some more reading up & decide before May as ferry booked for my euro tour in May.

Cheers 'Slimwilly', we will give it a go. But sure to find good roads through Spain & France (Routes already Planned)

It will be a Fazer/FZ1 parade, I have a naked FZ1, one Mate has a Faired FZ1 & other has a Gen1 Fazer1000.

I have lots of euro routes on .GPX format if any one is interested?

Looking forward to the Z8's even more so to scrubbing them in. :rollin

Got some Metzeler Z8's ordered for fitting on Saturday Morning..... £238 fitted.

Went out for a final blast on the Road Smarts last night & are well worn now... Auto Bahn Squared off now so makes corners a task instead of a pleasure!

Its just gonna kill me on the ride down to the ferry.... 200+ miles of motorway misery (setting off at 4am so needs must).. :\

Thanks Chaps & I'll keep you posted on how the Z8's perform.
