Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Upside down forks

Hey up, falcon has a superb guide if you can manage to search it out.  I referred to his guidance when I fitted the 4 x v front end recently.  I gathered the bits together first (forks, yokes, taper rollers and a fazer stem), built the new yoke set and then changed the whole front end as a complete swap, leaving me a complete original front end spare.  I think doing it this way breaks the job up into more manageable, realistic bits.  The results are great as well!

With the 27th been sorted, or so I thought, I turned up at 12.30!!  I guess I should have checked the forum before leaving (from the wirral)!!!
Can I suggest the end of June(29th)
Enjoyed the ride though and paid a visit to Cosford whilst I was out and about.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / fazer meet 2014??
« on: 23 April 2014, 01:11:07 am »
Hey up,
Is there a meet up planned for this year as I have just been looking at some pics from previous years and looks great.  If there isn't a meet planned, why not!!!!  Would love to see some other fazer machinery and put some faces to some rather ridiculous forum names :D

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / modded gen 1s please!
« on: 07 April 2014, 11:49:52 pm »
Hey up,
I think I am well and truly addicted to modding my gen 1.  Just finished fitting an early r1 front end to compliment many other mods already completed over the years.
I am already thinking about the next thing to do as I just can't leave it alone!!
Anyway, I would love to see pics of any of your modded bikes to give me more ideas and reassurance that I am not alone with my brilliant addiction :D
Stay safe and start posting those pics.
Cheers

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: r1 front end nearly done!

Cheers Kosmic, exactly the same issue you had there!  I have made the same modification as you.  I think it may just be the way the switch ends up sitting after the holes have been enlarged to fit the switch to the new yoke.  Should be finished tomorrow :D

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / r1 front end nearly done!
« on: 31 March 2014, 11:22:19 pm »
Nearly done with fitting r1 front end, however, noticed that the casing of the ignition switch is just touching the steering lock bracket on the frame when turning to left lock!  Has anyone else had this?  Will be easily sorted, but not heard of anyone else mentioning this so just wondering.  It is a complete 98/99 front end.  Will post pics when I can, but any responses would be great.  Cheers.

Cheers Sirg, will definitely post some pics mate.  So far the conversion is going well, I am building a complete R1 front end first and then just do a complete one for another swap if that makes sense?
As for the run out screwdriver, it is measured by holding one end in a lathe and turning it whilst measuring with a dial gauge.

Fitted full monty in summer last year, much, much better now.  If fitting yourself do take your time as it is a delicate process!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / steering stem runout query
« on: 22 March 2014, 11:42:13 pm »
Just in the middle of converting my standard front end to the r1 (early type) and have noticed a 10 thou run out on the fazer steering stem. Any opinions on whether is an acceptable tolerance will be greatly welcomed.  Thanks in advance.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / An important note to up and coming ivanisers!!
« on: 30 August 2013, 10:54:11 pm »
I posted a query a few weeks ago with regards to my gen 1 hanging on the revs after throttle was closed.  This occurred after fitting a full monty kit.  Riding further up the rev range proved to be a much improved result, however, this 'lean' situation with revs 'hanging' was hugely irritating.  I knew immediately that the problem was down to the pilot circuit running lean but have only just got round to sorting it.
Whilst drilling the pilot air holes a fine swarf found its way into the circuit and partially blocked up on 2 of the carbs.
The solution this evening was of course to 're remove the carbs and drop all of the pilot screws completely out and clear the circuits with carb cleaner.  Bike now sweet!!
The main point of course here is to pass this info on because as far as I can remember there is no mention of removing the pilot screws to effectively clear the circuits before setting mixtures.  I believe most guidelines just tell you to set the mixture screws up and then undertake all of the other operations and then refit the carbs.
Anyway, I hope this 'heads up' saves other budding enthusiasts wasted time on a second removal of the carb bank!!
Cheers.

Thanks for feedback falcon.  When throttle is blipped in neutral it settles back to idle pretty quickly.  It seems that it is a little more noticeable when ridden ie it seems to have lost some of the engine braking effect due to not shutting down absolutely immediately if that makes sense.  There are definitely no air leaks at intake Stubbs and throttle cables are returning properly.  I was thinking of possibly putting standard slide springs back in to see if that helps?  What are your thoughts?

Hi all,
just finished fitting a full monty kit to my gen 1 and am made up with results!  Just 1 quick query though, it is now not returning to idle quite as quick as before from approx 3-4 thousand rpm i.e a little loss of engine braking.  Any ideas or is this quite normal??
