Bought a 1994 cb500 in 2005 for £1000 with 8000 miles on. It has now done 59000 miles. In the seven and half years the bike has lived outside and been ridden through winter and with the exception of routine maintenance i haven't spent a penny on it or even had a advisory on an M.O.T. It's mighty close to being as good a motorcycle as a fzs600 fazer. Without doubt the best £1000 i ever spent on a motorcycle and it's still going strong and looking good.
