New found respect for the Fazer!
« on: 06 November 2012, 01:45:35 pm »
After 92k miles the Gearbox on my BMW GS has decided to give up.  While that is being repaired I decided to get my wife's Fazer 600 (1998) back on the road.  Her riding boots were packed away when our first daughter came along six years ago and since then it has been sitting in the garage.  I know, I know its not good for a bike to sit around  :rolleyes .  Well it passed the MOT without any issues and I started using it for my 72 mile trip to work and home everyday.  After the GS it did feel rather small and at 6ft1in the wind was catching my head on the motorway, something I am not used too!  I was truly amazed how nice this bike is to ride considering this was the original Fazer.  OK you certainly have to rev it more than a 1150boxer but it's fast and smooth not to mention bloomin light.  Motorway travel is a joy and I am getting used to the wind buffering my head.  Only thing is I can't see behind me so will have to get an extender or something (any ideas?)  The engine seems to purr rather than growl but have come to love it.  What an amazing little bike and fuel consumption is truely amazing, savings for sure.  When my GS is fixed I may just have to find excuses to use the Fazer  :D

Mirrors from newer fazer models (2002, 2003), as well as the 1000 model fit bolt on. I use those, aftermarket made (OEM are about 90 euro for one, these were about 25 euro per one).

Sorry to jump in, are these the ones you have fitted - will they fit the '99 FZS600?

The mirrors on my 03 plate 6 are fine. I'm about 12 stone and can see past both sides perfectly well. I am sure they are standard mirrors too!
