New E10 and E5 fuel
« on: 31 August 2021, 02:00:57 pm »
Does anybody have any concerns with using the new fuels? I understand the Fazer Gen 1 will run on E10?

I do, but purely based on Red Ceri’s experience a few years ago. I’m off to France/Spain next week and will be hunting out E5 petrol stations where at all possible. I’ve only used Super in the Fazer since I’ve had it, unless 95 is the only option. I’m aware that Yamaha say E10 should be ok, but don’t want to be the one to find out it’s not.

They will almost probably run fine on E10, but likely accelerate the failure of the wee rubber O-ring parts inside the carbs.  I suspect those carb overhaul kits are about to shoot up in price...

Yes, I do. Others dont, but im gonna continue to put the highest octane readily available fuel into my FZ6 Fazer. Putting a liquid into your fuel system that absorbs water and settles to the bottom of the fuel tank, seems to me to be an unwise thing to do. Remember, its not about giving you better value for your money, more bang for your buck, or improving your fuel efficiency, its about a perceived reduction in air pollution whilst encouraging traffic growth, increased air travel, and growing the extraction industries to supply the minerals required for non fossil fuel vehicles.

There is an additive we put into the tank of our diesel narrow boat. It grabs hold of moisture molecules and they are removed during combustion. I wonder if it is worth thinking of something like this for the bike? For me, the biggest concern is the degradation of the rubber items within the carbs.

Maybe some sort of fuel bowl with a drain plug like they have on diesel machines, then you could drain the water on a regular basis ???

Strange that Motorex Ethanol Treatment 250ml, is out of stock everywhere I’ve tried. Was going to take some on my Spain trip next week, in case I got lumbered with having to use E10. I believe Sta-bil do a similar product, so will check that out.
