Sometimes I love my job....
« on: 12 March 2015, 10:10:17 pm »
A customer bought me the engine out of his bike and old GSX1100 fearing that because it was burning oil the end was nigh for his bike, So I had to call him today to give him good and bad news... Good news the burning oil is only valve stem oil seals and because I've got the motor apart already for investigation work its not gonna take a lot to fix.

The bad news .... He doesn't actually own a GSX1100, what hes actually got it a stonking great race tuned 1270cc Wiseco engine. When I told him he said "I always thought the bike was a bit quick, but had no idea!"

I wondered why the head gasket wouldn't fit!

I'd love a 1270 wiseco engine... i remember when i was young :'( i used to read about tuning shops that did wiseco kits and stan stephens tuning two strokes. Magazines don't seem to have so much adverts now for those tuning places. I once bought two vf1000f bikes but once i had stripped the engines one of them was actually a vf1000r model with the gear driven cams. :)  It was the silver one that had the 'r' engine
If it's broken, it's not fixed.

I paid £100 for them. I went to view the bikes and the guy couldnt get them to start, so i made him an offer and he accepted. I got the red one running sweet and got a complete bike together along with the spare silver bike and got £700. I never planned on keeping them as don't handle great, brakes are pretty poor and they are heavy..

Don't ya just love deals like that? I went to pick up a GPZ750 Uintrak that no-one seemed to want, it had the usual 80's stuff 2-4 seat, harris pipe, raask rear sets, clip ons.... etc etc but had been stood for years. When I got it back to the workshop it had a stuck valve so I whipped the head off and found an 810cc kit with a gas flowed head!  :D
