replaced bulb, lost speedo
« on: 17 February 2015, 08:12:52 pm »
Hello all...

I noticed the other day that one of my 'dash' bulbs was out (the one on the left of the speedo)

everything else was working fine.

so I decided to sort this out, and upgrade to white bulbs off ebay, and all went well and I got it all sorted out within 30minutes or so...(see below!!)

I went out on the bike today, and the speedo is dead!

everything else still works, including the trip meter... it's just the speedo that's now working.

does anyone have any idea what could be wrong after changing a few bulbs over?!?

thanks!!

going to give it another strip down later today.... I've been riding about to drain the tank to ensure the petrol light comes on OK ( I did put a 'working' light in there, but maybe the polarity is different)

So hopefully all nothing major, but we'll see...

should have all been so simple....  :rollin

well I almost drained the tank and my fill light never came on, so I guess I had it the wrong way round.

took everything apart again last night, changed the bulb around and made sure there were no damaged wires, or disconnected ones etc...

the speedo still doesn't work.

when I turn the bike on it goes from the off position to the 'ready' position - at 0 mph.... but does nothing after that.....

does anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong??

You do know that you need to be moving for the speedo to work

oh my god... really???

I had the bike on its centre stand and spinning the rear wheel with my hand, doesn't this work!?!?!?  :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes

I am aware that the bike has to be moving for the speedo to register what speed you are going, thanks for the help though, very kind!  :b

speedo drive is in the front wheel, that explains your problem  :lol
