Problems starting
« on: 12 March 2015, 06:18:29 pm »
so my throttle cable snapped after stopping to fuel up. I managed to dismantle the housing, yank the cable and ride Home. However, in messing around with it before getting it started it backfired. Got it home, got a new cable and changed it (wasn't as easy as I thought it would be). Anyway, now it is a bitch to start. I ,mean, a real bitch. It is getting worse too. It backfires too - and then starts on the backfire. If I shut off the fuel, it sometimes starts, then I switch it on again.

Once started it is a dream. Just getting the thing started. Anyone advice?

The fact that it runs well once started makes me think the sparks are ok.
It may be running rich on one (or more) carbs, if one's flooding a bit that would explain the backfiring and why turning the fuel off helps.
Try checking the fuel levels in the carbs.

Drain the float bowls and see if that solves it, might have a float stuck
