It's not clear exactly what the problem is.

Do you mean that you can't switch the bike on at all or is it when you're trying to actually start the engine?

That sounds like your key is knackered.

Firstly of all I'd suggest putting a drop or two of oil into the key barrel and then gently turning it to see if there might be some rust etc in the mechanism.

If that doesn't work, dig out your spare black key (or the red one) and compare that with the one you're using now and see if it's bent or the teeth are worn at all.

If all the keys are as bad it sounds like the mechanism is buggered. Unfortunately I've no idea how much it would be to sort it.

BTW Most people are currently at http://fazerowners.yuku.com/directory (this forum is going to take over from that at some point) so I'd suggest posting in the FZ6 section of Fazer Hints and Tips on there and hopefully someone will be able to help.

Try a bit of wd40 and work the key up and down, my barrel was stuck in the down position, when your in lock/off position should be able to feel a spring in the key. If not there slightly raise the key in off pos and should go to on

Agree - I also had to do the WD40 down the barrel but it did the trick and now a wee wiggle seems to sort it every time.

It's the barrel that's worn, not the key. The old 600's did it as well. You'll need to very gently rock the key either backwards and forwards to get it to turn (think it's backwards for the FZ6, and forwards for the FZS600). With practice you'll get the feel for it, then it'll get to be second nature.

I've noticed a similar foible with my thou.
Another trick is to check the key is straight, I've noticed mine occasionally has a twist in from being used in the seat lock.
A quick blast in the petrol tank lock past open with "gentle" pressure trues it up again and no issues for a few more miles, rinse and repeat.
