General / Re: Plugged tire?
« on: 13 July 2016, 12:15:49 pm »
I voted to get it repaired and keep using it. But then I'm Scottish :)

If it's repaired correctly it'll last the life of the tyre.
Years ago I had the same situation, plugged to get home but lasted ages after that before I went to get it repaired, never played on my mind with temp plug or after repair, was happy with it :)

Another good tip is hang a weight on rear brake pedal and leave overnight, because its under pressure forces air out, I always bleed till I get some sort of pedal/lever then leave overnight with weight, to do front just tie lever to bar with tiestrap (also use this on ferries to stop bike moving, just make sure you got snips or a means of cutting it off)  :)
Good idea :thumbup
I use a wee strap that has a sort of locking mechanism and easy to release when I do my front ones, also great for checking brake lights too. (don't need snips to remove and can use it over and over again)
Couldn't figure out how to do rear pedal but thought maybe using said strap with a couple of bricks hanging from pedal.

Sorted my digigear en route to work :thumbup
Replaced my rear brake for a bluespot after work :thumbup
Couldn't get it to bleed properly :thumbdown
But after a beer and a chat on the 1000 thread I kept going and success :thumbup
Next job on my list is to replace front pads while I still try to figure out how to change the clocks, it's giving me headaches, I thought it was a straight swap :(

Ahh just to give a bit of preload? That's a good idea!
Yes it does just that and you can put in or take out what you want.
I've got 15w oil in mine as well as a few washers :)

Right, had a beer and a thought.....
So went out and started again, doing front then rear then front then rear, top up fluid and do that all over again, it must sure work now?
YES IT FOCCIN DID :) :) :)
Thanks for your help, maybe 8 just had to keep going as maybe didn't clear out all the air the first time.

Again thanks, can always rely on foccers to help when in a crisis :thumbup

Done the outside one then I noticed inside one, didn't notice as I put it on as I got it all with bracket etc so just bolted it all on.

So yes I bled the outside one then onto the inner one, kept topping up fluid in reservoir and was getting fluid through both nipples, couldn't see any air bubbles so I gave it a try, nothing :(
So I stripped out the pads and checked pistons were moving, all good there and clean.
I'm at a total loss as to what's up.

I'm in Glasgow so couldn't get to Leeds but appreciate the offer.

Right guys I'm seriously in the shit, I acquired a 1000 bluespot caliper and put in onto my 600 but I've tried bleeding it but I've got nowhere, so I'm looking for some urgent help to get it to work, from you guys in the know of these calupers, is there something I'm missing? I thought straight swap and bleed job done but no way would it slow me down nevermind stop me if needed.
Your help would be very much appreciated,
Thanks.

Mines a 1999, so no adjusters. I'll get some 15w oil for them.
Will do cheers!
I'll give you a Scottish idea :-)

I've recently put some penny washers into my front shocks, just remove top cap, drop in some penny washers making sure you do the same amount each side, think I've got 3 either side and then replace top cap, go for a wee run see how it feels, then add or remove to suit your ride, 30 minute job max.

They were half penny washers.... Same dimension as penny but made for the Scottish..... :b
And me being really Scottish I got them for less than a penny for the lot! :b

I want to change my 1998 clocks to 2003 set, got all the wiring looms etc but the white connectors are different under the tank, now scratching my head as I thought it was a straight swap but needs a wee bit more thinking, so have any of you guys done this and can give me some ideas?
Cheers.

Total cost so far about £95, not sure how much it will be for the engineer to mount it in the tank but considering the cost of a real item I'm pleased how it turned out

Awesome engineering but a bit costly for a cup holder and a coin tray :rollin :rollin :rollin
(I do like it, honest)

Tried to swap 2003 clocks for my 1998 ones, didn't happen as the wiring is different. Yes, I have the wiring harnesses for both and thought it was a straight swap but the connections in the black box under the tank is different, so I'll need to rethink :(
Also fitted a digigear (thanks Anutz) but again didn't work due to programming but I'll try to do that tomorrow on way to work as apposed to on the centre stand :(
I will however need to rewire it again when I manage to work out how to swap the clocks!
Ahh the joys of tinkering :lol

washed it and noticed the washer that should be behind the front sprocket not behind the front sprocket but under the casing where i keep the gunk :lol  and upon further inspection ,sure enough my nut had gone walkabout :'(  i  thought it was only the 600's that threw off there nuts :rolleyes so she will be stayin put untill the new one arrives,,ill have to make do with the apprillia :D

"Oh I give up"

Edited (again) :pokefun for downey.

Note to downey... stop puting font and sizes in, or once you've posted your statement, go back in and modify it by taking out ALL THE FONT/SIZES you've put in between the  [ ] and remove those too!

I can't be the only one with this problem, can I ??
No, your probably not but you asked about those certain mirrors  and I merely suggested you actually contact them and ask the questions and I also stated that it would be slim that anyone on here bought from that particular seller.
I don't have the problem of not seeing behind me, I was only trying to help you.

General / Re: after a new exhaust? have a read here first
« on: 28 June 2016, 10:20:05 pm »
thought silencers have to be tailored made to suit different bikes?
Lots of silencers (end cans) are interchangeable if you can get the correct size to connect to the link pipe it shouldn't make a difference, (and the hanger should just slide up or down the silencer to fit in with original hanger place)
It's the downpipes and link pipes that you really need to keep to original specs etc although these could be changed too if you wanted to route the exhaust a different way, ie to the other side of the bike but that would involve a lot of measuring and sorting out :(
