Hi aka

Its one of those annoying problems that you will have to investigate and tick all the boxes and revisit/back track and check the jobs you have done. Before you go spending money on new parts do the jobs that are only going to cost in cleaning parts. My bike was stuttering and bogging down at top end of revs. It turned out to be one of three problems and it took me an age to sort it (money/time/pissed off with her)

I suspected icing so took the carbs off and cleaned them. Put K&N air filter in and did a rad flush. It now runs a treat but could not tell you what the problem was. This was my last attempt to solve the problem as I had thrown money at her and changed allot of other parts.

I would start with a carb clean its not hard just scary if its the first time.

Mr T your life is eventful but good see your OK

Its that time of year where my local council up north grit which is fine for the cold mornings but it ends up as grease especially if the suns been out and has melted the ice before the grit has done its work.

The quicker you are the quicker your reactions and observations need to be so take it easy. Do not forget to check your tyre pressers regulery as the temp drops so will your PSI. I grease up all the moving parts and use scottoiler 365 after a days run.

I use bagster tank cover as in the find winter months the nut freeze is not a pleasant experience and find it more comfortable throughout. You may want to consider this option.

A friend of mine told me about these. I have never heard or used them but will be trying them out on my renewal.

I is now considering this myself but would also be doing the OEM down pipes. Like the look of darris thread but would it work on the pipes as well?

Just started riding in the 80's and on a little YB100. Was at a round about waiting to join it. I had just stood up feet on the ground and bang. Bike shot across into traffic I rolled on the floor in agony where to two rear indicators slapped my hamstrings. Never found out who did it as they  :foc This was in broad daylight around 0800 as I was on my way to work but ended up in A&E.

I would prefer to go with a cable that already has the nipple ends connected at factory for strength, durability and peace of mind. But if you are happy with DIY needed for these cables go for it and let the rest of us know what you think and how long they last.

Beautiful but now you have had your 30 seconds of fun and the misses the has just had the worst pain not known to man while doing all the hard work. You will be maid to pay the rest of your life with "pain, you do not know the meaning of pain" and "you only have man flu" You will be reminded that as a man you are expected to be modern.

I is still trying to figure out what is actually expected of me as a modern dad.

No mate I was getting pissed of with doing one job at a time with the tank on then off. My pants don't removed as often as the tank. The filter was a last minute decision. I suspected icing was taking place as it was intermittent, up in high revs and at speed when stuttering was happening so a possible blockage on the coolant in the carbs. Air filter I took off had less than 100 miles on it but the K&N seating in the air box is second to none.

I is a happy foccer  :woot

Ok. Do I have to fully remove the tank or can I get away with just hinging and proping up. I am also replacing the air filter

Air filter is tank off.
You will need fuel to warm the engine for the Radflush to work, unless you just take the bike for a spin instead.

I did not take the tank off for air filter but had to remove side pannels for access to two nipples that the rubber water cover is secured by. Noggy do I need to worry about something.

Did mine yesterday and did as noggy with washer/seal. I bought 15L of Halfords distilled water. Empted the coolant out, added flush and water then ran for 10min idling my fan kicked in. Then left to cool for 10 min.

I left the radiator filler cap on and took out drain bolt. If system is air tight no or little fluid will flow out until the filler cap is off. If alone place tub at a distance to collect coolant. If you have a mate I gave him funnel to put into bottle to catch fluid. After all was out and water went clear I simply flusher the rad with rest of water.

While on centre stand and after adding new coolant run the bike in first. Put bike onto wheels and rock back and forth and lean side to side. Back onto stand check coolant level.

Yesterday I put the bike back together and fired her up with petrol pissing out all over the place from the carbs. This was after putting in a new K&N air filter. The bike had been run for 10 mins with rad flush in the coolant system with no signs of a leak. I then drained and flushed with 15L of distilled water. There were fine black particular matter floating in the water that eventually ran clear. It took me and my bro an hour to strip carbs off as I had a good idea why petrol was pissing out of the float bowls. It was the new gaskets so I simply put the old ones back on that did the job.

But this is what happened when taking out the carbs
1 At what point do you realise something is wrong 9 Nov 13
1 At what point do you realise something is wrong 9 Nov 13

2 At this point 13 Nov 13
2 At this point 13 Nov 13

Did I say simple?

So eventually got the clip off put old gaskets back on but use (sparingly) rubber grease to hold them in place and refit. I did prior to this use carb cleaners for cleaning the carbs  :think and I used a guitar string to ensure the fine holes were clear. Then I soaked all metal removable parts in carb cleaner for 30 mins.

So the cabs are back on the bike and home for a beer.

Got a call this afternoon from numb nuts and he says bike still fucked as he took it out as crash test dummy. I pointed out the obvious that the clip was missing and cause a vacum problem. I went round took the bike out and bloody hell the difference is amazing even with out a clip fitted so off the a spars shop and clip fitted and I is a really happy  :faz owner.

The stutter is no more.

2. I've noticed that my carburetors have some kind of air hose:
http://postimg.org/image/6v0zxde45/

but it's not connected anywhere, should it be?

That filter just sits in that position and nothing is connected the open side. It has a metal mesh inside I took mine off and sprayed it with carb cleaner then left it to dry completely.

The jets you mention are you talking about the pilot screw jets? That sit on the under side of carb housing and is accessed with out taking the bowls of? If So I nipped mine up and then did 5 half turns that would equate to 2 full and 1 half turn. My number four pilot screw was no where near the other 3. So make sure they are all similar.

Unsure if it has solved my stuttering problem as I have not had chance to take it for a run. I also did a coolant flush and I could not believe the amount of particulates that I flushed out.
