For Sale & Wanted / Wanted - Gen 1 Fazer 1000 centre stand.
« on: 27 July 2020, 05:56:55 pm »

Hi everyone, I noticed when I was in France fully loaded with the missus on the back that the centre stand was looking a bit rotty.  Has anyone got a decent one they want to sell?

Masks. Check

Cash. Check.

Bike sorted. Er, well, no actually, the wheels are still off after being balanced, but i'll sort it tomorrow morning.

Missus prepped for a long time in the saddle. Check.

Music playlist for the trip put onto MP3 player. Check.

Licence, V5 and insurance stashed on bike. Check.

Hotel on the way down booked and paid for. Check.

There's lots more but I'm getting over excited now.

See you all after a week of fun, riding,  drinking and 30 degree sunshine.

Anyone got a sports rack or similar for a Gen 1 Fazer 1000 they want to sell?

Has anyone got a couple of radiator end covers kicking about that they don't need anymore? Same with a radiator grille which protects the rad from stones etc.

Thanks.

Ok, apologies if this has been done.

As the R6 shock was not an OE fitment (Obviously) on the Fazer 1000, i wondered if it would be a good idea to gather together the Shock settings from the people who have fitted one. Along with weight and riding style.

Mine is as follows (as set up by Devilsyam himself)

Preload - 4th notch up from minimum

Compression - Dont really know, i wound it up 70 clicks from original setting with a 3mm allen key but never came to the end, wound it 60 clicks back from the original setting and never came to the end there either. Is this right???

Weight - 105 Kilos

Riding Style - Quick-ish on the road (there's always someone quicker, but not a great amount of them!).

And as this post fades into the distance with no replies ............................................

I have just fitted the R6 Shock (supplied by Devilsyam RIP 2 years ago) to my Gen 1 Fazer 1000. I haven't really had a chance to push on and really test out the new shock, but I may have to do a long trip with the girlfriend and luggage. Does anyone know what I should be setting the Shock to??

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / HELP!! Disc bolt torque settings
« on: 17 June 2020, 02:53:45 pm »
Ok, I have my newly powdercoated wheels sitting here, all bearings and seals fitted, just waiting for the discs to go back on, so this is kind of urgent. I need the torque settings for the front and rear disc bolts, I'm not going to just hammer them up like the last guy must have done. Anyone help??

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted Gen 1 Indicator retaining plates
« on: 16 June 2020, 05:02:31 pm »

Has anyone got a couple of those plates that fit into the base of the indicator stem on the inside of the rear mudguard which secure the indicators in place?

In anticipation of my local bike shop making a mess of my front offside calliper trying to get a snapped bleed nipple out. Has anyone got one knocking about they would like to sell? The closer to Stoke the better really so I can drive and pick it up.

As the title says, has anyone done a KR yellow with black speedblocks on a Gen 1? Photos please if you have, I need to get an idea of what I'm letting myself in for. The only saving grace is that if I cock it up a bit, it can't look any worse than it does now. Thanks guys.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Clutch dragging when hot on a GEN 1 1000
« on: 31 March 2019, 12:15:43 pm »

Since i bought my second Fazer ive noticed that the clutch is not as reliable on the bite point as my last Gen 1. As the bike gets hot the bite point comes further and further towards the bar until (if im in traffic on a hot day) it no longer disengages, i can ride along with full drive with the clutch fully into the bar.

Now the last owner (on this site) told me that he had put in a clutch kit (EBC i think) with heavy duty springs. I have since been in touch and he has thrown the removed plates and springs away.

Ive been told two things.

1. Change the oil and filter, as the oil that's in it may be causing the issue. Im going to do this and see if it works before i move onto .........

2. Fit a new original clutch kit with springs, friction plates and steels. I got a price on this genuine kit yesterday and i'm looking at around £250+ for the kit, not including any labour or gaskets. I could do it myself, but if i get my local (very trustworthy) bike shop to do it,  and still doesnt work, i can take it back and they can fix it for free seeing as they told me that this would fix it.

The third option is to put an ad on here for a complete original clutch basket and fit the lot, or see if anyone has a good complete clutch kit with springs, frictions and steels.

Any advice please??

For Sale & Wanted / Victory Vegas 8 ball for sale £4,800
« on: 04 August 2018, 04:01:31 pm »
For sale is my 2007 Victory Vegas 8 Ball, 1634cc 5 speed. Ok so its not a Fazer, but it does look good next to one in the Garage. The only reason i'm selling this bike is because i don't ride it enough.
It has done 11,200 miles, only about a thousand of those have been done by me over the past 2 years. The pipes on it are Victory's own loud pipes and the noise they make is pure eargasm. This bike accelerates faster than any cruser ive ever had and handles beautifully. The tyres have plenty of tread on them and the belt is tight.
The bike is being sold with the standard black Victory panniers and fitting kit (never used by me) and a Victory Mustang seat (never fitted or sat on by me), not got a pic of these as yet but i will add later. These are not fitted, but to be clear, are included in the sale of the bike.
The bike is fitted with a working Datatool alarm. The ghost flames on the tank only really stand out in direct sunlight the rest of the time you can hardly see them.

Now for the (not so) bad bits. This is an honest sale so i'm going to list all the things that, if i was going to keep it, i would put right. There is a small amount of paint bubbling starting to appear on the lower edge of the rear mudguard and at the top of the rear light, iv'e tried to show this in the pictures, but it can be felt with the fingertips rather than seen. I was going to have the mudguard re sprayed so i wouldn't have to write this, but i was worried that if i did i would probably want to keep it. The mudguards are gloss black not metallic so the paint job would be cheap There is a small amount of the black finish on the engine which has come off, about as big as a 20p piece, i will get a pic of this and add later. Probably where a previous owner has left it out in the rain and it has gathered in the bolt hole recess on the primary drive (?) cover. And that's it. The bike will be sold with 12 months MOT. I'll take it down to the MOT man next Saturday. I live in Stoke on Trent so central for all if you want to come and take a look. The price is £4,800 firm, iv'e had a look on ebay and that's cheaper than any Vegas 8 Balls and a couple of the old V92 cruisers. Any questions please text or call on 07837960448. Ive tried to post the actual pics but they are huge, so here are the links, if anyone can get them to fit the board normally i would appreciate it.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / 3K Tacho fault
« on: 24 July 2018, 08:31:00 pm »

On my Gen 1 1000, ive noticed occasionally that the tacho drops to zero, and then pops up and starts reading normally again, I thought it may have been a loose plug in the back of the clocks. Ive seen the 7K Exup fault lots of times before so i know how they are displayed. Then very recently i think the fault stayed around long enough for the fault code to be displayed properly, it went to 3K which i believe is a Throttle Position Sensor fault. Can anyone confirm this please?

Also, is it a matter of adjusting the position (if possible) of the sensor or are we talking about scrapping it and buying another one?

General / Can camera vans get you when facing towards you?
« on: 25 February 2018, 10:26:15 pm »
As it says, if a camera van is facing towards you, can they get the camera laser speed detector to work through the windscreen or does it have to have a clear path?

Because they always have that little flap open, which they point the camera through at the back.

General / EXUP Servo position photo
« on: 03 February 2018, 01:00:08 pm »

Ok, so I took off the servo motor for my Fazer 1000 gen 1 about 3 years ago and I cant remember where it went or in what orientation. Has anyone got a photo of the position of the thing.

Thanks.

General / Get in! Result!
« on: 22 January 2018, 09:53:56 pm »

Since ive had my Fazer (about 3 years now) I have never had a working Exup valve. I have gradually bought all the bits either new or good second hand, all apart from the main plate which holds everything in. CMSNL wanted €138 not including postage, and the wife refused to buy me parts for my bike for Christmas.
Well tonight I had one last trawl through Ebay to see if I could find one before I handed my card details over to CMSNL, and, success!!!

NOS £45 delivered from Northern Ireland. To say i'm chuffed is an understatement. Ive just got to find all the bits I've already bought so I can put it all together.

I hope after I put it all on and set it up, I notice the difference.

General / Camping in the Black Forest, anybody been?
« on: 06 January 2018, 09:50:42 pm »
11 of us are going off to Europe on the bikes as usual in July. We have a choice dependent on the weather. Its either camping in the black forest or if the weather is crap in Germany, down to my place (again) near to Nevers in France.

Now I am a little worried about the availability of camp sites which could accommodate us (we will need about 5 pitches together) without causing problems with other campers, families and young kids trying to sleep at 9pm when 11 of us are sitting around having a laugh and drinking beer.

I have had a look on the net for campsites in the Black Forest and all the ones ive found have marked off pitches and I reckon they would be either fully booked or only have a few scattered pitches available by the time we get there in the middle of summer. We cant book up early because we wont know where we will be going until about 3 days before we leave the mainland for Europe.

Has anybody been to the Black Forest around the B500 road area (yes I know its quite long) who has any info about campsites which would be more suited to our requirements?

Thanks.

General / Fazer engine into '98 R1
« on: 17 July 2017, 08:46:37 pm »

I'm pretty sure that the good old Gen 1 Fazer 1000 engine is a '98 - '99 R1 motor, probably with a few tweaks to the cams and ignition, is this correct?

The reason i'm asking is that a mate of mine has broken a valve in his race R1 motor and is looking at at a hefty repair bill (again, £1100 last time), I asked if it would be cheaper to just stuff another engine in it but he said the '98 - '99 engines are getting a bit rare now and are commanding big money. Then I thought about the Fazer, they have the same engine don't they?

if there is a mounting point for the R1 frame on the head, he is quite happy to source a cylinder head and use the Fazer bottom end.

Does anyone know if this can be done, Gen 1 Fazer into '98 R1???? Or is there something that just flat out rules it out?

Anyone help?

Thanks.
