Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Clutch issue or Shift?
« on: 07 August 2020, 09:07:33 pm »
My FZS1000 clutch works just fine and the gear change is exactly as it should be.  However, an odd noise has developed – can anyone help?  When shifting down from third to second and second to first, I occasionally get a ‘screech’ exactly at the shift point with pressure on the gear lever.  It sometimes also has a quick shriek when you press the starter.

I’ve had the cover off and checked the pull bearing and it seems fine and smooth when pulled (bike has only done 25K).  Does this sound like a clutch problem or something in the ’shift’ department?

UPDATE - I'm rebuilding the clutch with a new main roller bearing, not that the old one was completely shot.

FZ6 / Fazer / How much oil in the oil cooler please?
« on: 04 April 2020, 10:05:46 am »
My next task is to spray the front of the engine with engine paint.

I recently changed oil and filter.  Does anyone know, if I take off the oil cooler to clean and spray around it, how much oil I will lose?  Will I need to drain it first or will it just be what's in the cooler, in which case I can top up afterwards?

Thanks.

FZ6 / Fazer / Broken exhaust studs ..... oh dear ...
« on: 19 March 2020, 04:56:48 pm »
Two of the exhaust studs have broken on the 2004 FZ6 I recently purchased  :'( .  Yes I guessed they had never been undone since new and yes I should have cut, or tried to cut, the nuts before I broke the studs, but I didn't.

Today I've tried adding another nut and welding it on with my Aldi Arc welder.  I got a fair weld but the stud sheared again just under where I welded it and I've now got a little less left than shown on the picture (link) below.  No signs of movement (with the exception of one that came out with the nut) and I don't think I'm getting enough heat into it.

A friend is coming around on Saturday with his Mig who has successfully extracted a couple before using this technique, but I'm not too hopeful (and somewhat crapping it in case I end up having to take the head off  :\ ).

I'm thinking the best thing might be to cut and weld some threaded bar onto what I've got left and grind it down with a dremel.

Anyone got any (non depressing) thoughts?

FZ6 / Fazer / I'm back!
« on: 07 March 2020, 04:54:27 pm »
Hi.  I originally joined FOCU around 2006 and went on Aberdare and Spring Meets a couple of times plus track days at Llandow.  I kept that well loved FZS600 until a year or so ago, having taken to an FZS1000.  These days I do less riding and more local stuff and the FZS1000 is a bit big for that.

I've now come across a great condition FZ6 which I pick up tomorrow.  Yes, a 16 year old bike and I'm quite excited about it!  I do go to the Bike Show at Birmingham NEC, but there is nothing newer I really fancy owning.  I've ridden a few things but still love Fazer 600s.  So, I shall be looking forward to looking more on the site.  No big mods planned, but a good service, headlamps and exhaust (less of it!) will be the priorities!  All the best, Clive.

Not sure if it is possible or how to add photos so here is a link to me and the bikes:  https://photos.app.goo.gl/LDpPCvAHroir5mCe6
