FZS600 Fazer / 01 5DMC and 02 5RT4 frames... are they different???
« on: 29 August 2023, 11:05:06 am »
Hi all
looking to purchase a frame over here in a not so sunny France...  It was advertised as an 02/03 frame... (with Carte Grise (French V5) & number plate)... But when I managed to get a look at the (French) V5 it was registered in Nov 01... Now, it maybe an 02 registered early, but the French registration method leaves a lot to be desired. (so... I have the frame and registration numbers)  I have contacted the breakers and asked for clarification... But I think that I maybe weeing into the wind as they don't seem to understand what I'm asking for!!! lol   searching the numbers on the world wide webulator hasn't come up with any results... and don't even mention contacting Yamaha France... They are as forthcoming as a wet sponge!!! lol
Anyway... question... Is there a discernible difference between the actual frames???... For example... Lugs to accommodate the foxeye fairing opposed to the Mk1 fairing?  Fastners around the bike... or anything else I need to be aware of??? I'm not opposed to having to change a bit around... I have a good welder friend here that builds his own custom bikes...
Cheers

FZS600 Fazer / Hard to start when hot...
« on: 09 June 2021, 11:43:32 am »
Went out for a ... 'brisk'... ride yesterday.  Weather was really hot.  Stopped for fuel and the bike took a while and a little throttle to start again...   Rode ok afterwards.... bike seems a little 'flat' anyway because (I'm guessing) of the race can.  (Baffle in).  When I cleaned the bike afterwards the engine seemed hotter than normal around the cylinder head/cam cover at the spark plugs. (And this was around 15 mins after I had got home).
I'm thinking that the problem maybe one or another.. perm any combination..... Heat of the day... Plugs... Can.... Fuel mixture (Carbs have been rebuilt)... coils.... shit happens/deal with it..... Lol..... Any thoughts anyone???? (New battery BTW).

2003 Yamaha FZS600 Fazer Rebuild

The original purpose for the work was to protect the ali during winter commute duties….. But that was 8 years ago…. !!!!!  I’m semi-retired now… the furthest I commute now is from the bedroom to the kitchen for breakfast….. 😊 So, although the bike isn’t a ‘show’ bike by any stretch of the imagination, it has a different purpose in life now…..

New/refurbished items:

  • £700 worth of Seals, bearings and shims!!!!!!
  • Forks rebuilt with Hagon Progressive springs
  • New Delkevik Radiator
  • Beowulf Guard
  • New SS downpipes (quite why I didn’t just strip the originals I don’t know!!!!)
  • Lextek carbon can
  • Leovince hi-level link pipe reworked to fit can
  • Calipers refurbished with new pistons, seals and nipples etc (Brakemasters Chesterfield)
  • Carbs stripped and refurbished  (Matt Harper near Nantwich)
  • New Inlet rubbers (engine side)
  • Wheels painted
  • Valve clearances whilst engine out of frame
  • Hagon rear Shox
  • ‘Fazer’ polished Torque arm
  • Chain and Sprockets
  • Clutch cable
  • R&G Bar ends
  • New fluids and grease all around
  • MX Hand guards
Powdercoating:
  • Forks
  • Swingarm
  • Cam covers and end caps
  • Hangers and pegs
Exhaust hanger:
  •   Rear Brake lever
Rear Brake caliper hanger:
  • Gear lever
  • Sidestand
  • Main stand
  • Cut down Leovince Can (Didn’t use in the end)
  • Various other bits and pieces  (I’ll try and post some pictures)
£150 for all the bits at Rugby Powdercoating… But that was 8 years ago…… lol

The seat cover was already on the bike, but I attached an old tank bag to it… al la endure style… originally just to hold a few things on the commute….. Deefer did most of the extra curriculum ‘red’ paintwork before the ‘rebuild’…. I did the mirrors and fairing inners….

Pictures:
  • Mark 1... Standard... save for a Givi Wing Rack....
  • Mark 2... Seat cover and high level can
  • Mark 3... Start of the redness.....
  • Mark 4... todays iteration
[cleaned up the broken formatting, the post as unreadable - bkd.]
