Title: 50000 miles up, here's to the next 50000!
Post by: BMCfaz on 14 February 2019, 03:40:37 pm
The clock's just gone over 50000, most of it done by me in the 7-8 years I've had the bike. So that, as mentioned elsewhere, makes my Fazer pretty much worthless. It seems that, no matter how well it runs or how well it's maintained, most buyers are petrified of perceived high milages, even though it only works out at a bit over 3000 miles a year.

Well, more fool them! I've yet to see a bike that will do all the things I want it to with ease and in comfort, so I've no plans to change and I'm looking forward to the next 50000 on the Fazer.

Great bikes. I have the smaller version 600 which i got at 9,500 miles and now on 55,000. Apart from a few little mods of my own it has only had routine maintenance like regular oil and filter changes, checked valve clearances a couple of times, (always within spec.), re-greased swinging arm and linkage pivots a couple of times, now on third front sprocket but still original chain and rear sprocket (Scottoiler fitted). New battery a couple of years ago and tyres and fuel as required. Still brings a smile to my face and does all I want from a bike so also no plans to retire it.

Good work  :)
I think because dealers use mileage as a bargaining tool, many of the bike buying public has been persuaded that a bike is for the breaker's yard beyond 20000 miles  :rolleyes

You only have 222,000 miles to go to beat Denise Dickinson on her 2001 FZ1

50000, just run in on this engine..........can’t wait to retire & get mine up to that.  Get the gearing sorted, larger rear & smaller front sprocket on a Full Monty, no need to rev the nuts off it........will last forever👍👍

I know mine is only an 8 but I've just turned 56000. My first TDM 900 though is on 152000 and the other is at 97000 and both still going strong.

My 04 is on 44k and the engine feels and sounds like new. Second gear is a bit clunky but to be expected, never jumps out or anything

I have 2 Gen 1s. One of them, which I've had from new has done over 160,000 miles, still on its original clutch, wheel bearings and suspension. Theres no fairing as I've crashed it 3 times but still managed to ride it home, the last time with a broken wrist! Brilliant bike, I can't bring myself to part with it despite having 4 other 'better' bikes.
