Title: Scooter for my daughter.
Post by: sinto on 13 June 2016, 08:50:51 pm
My daughter is trying to rob me of more money but it's for two wheels so I can't complain much.

She's just about to do her CBT and is looking at this,
https://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/lexmoto-valencia-low-mileage/1173134790 (https://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/lexmoto-valencia-low-mileage/1173134790)

Anybody know anything about them? Can't find much info on them.
She is going to sit her CBT and test on a bike in case she can get a bike in later years. (She has problems with her bones and would struggle to get her leg over a bike all the time atm)
Cheers.

Looks nice but for how long, Chinese bikes have poor reliability and quality issues that may end up costing you more in the long run

I'd be looking for a slightly older Jap or Italian for similar money

Your choice of course

We had a Lexmoto breakdown outside our work last week, the chain had snapped, the bike was only showing 7500 miles and the chain was coated in lube, luckily the female riding it was in the town as it could have locked the wheel and thrown her off, she said she had had nothing but trouble with the bike since she bought it brand new.

I've heard enough to persuade her  onto Japanese and even Peugeot so at least she's looking in the right direction now :)
I did have my doubts but wanted confirmation and thanks for the replies. :thumbup

Why not Yamaha?

Why not Yamaha?
Yes I've told her to check eBay for Honda, Yamaha etc but most are down south and I certainly don't fancy riding it any great distance to get it home plus I'd need to go look at it first, she can search for them then and I'll just search my wallet :(

When I did John O'Groats to lands end  I met this dad who 'd picked up a 125 custom for his son north of Fort William, poor bastard lived near Bristol, he's probably still on his way home now 😊

Not a bad price but....It is Chinese. I used to import Chinese bikes and they are shite.
When my son was 16 I got a really cheap 50cc Chinese moped for him and then spent nearly as much again keeping it on the road. I have told him and my youngest that the youngest will get a European or Japanese bike later this year when he turns 16.

If she really likes the Chinese bike though, for just a few hundred pounds more you can get a brand new one with 2 years of warranty

Sounds very odd swapping a scooter for your daughter- I guess you're from the East?

Mind you, it'd save me a fortune but I could never swap my children :)

I had a cheep Chinese WK 125 Sport once and when it worked it was a nice little ride but 9 out of 10 times it didn't work :lol

Check out auto trader bikes as I spend a lot of time browsing the different bikes for sale and most of the time the cheaper ones seem to be mostly up north.

Lexmoto are shite to be honest.

My missus has a Sym Fiddle 2 125cc auto (they are in version 3 now) and you can get interest free credit over 2 years.

Our one cost about £1700 brand new on the road with a top box and quality lock and chain and hasn't missed a beat in 2 years with one service.

I ride it occasionally and apart from being limited in power (as all 125 bikes are) it's great, easy to ride and quick enough for A roads.

All this 'Chinese bikes are crap' is too much of a generalisation, it wasn't that long ago Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki were referred to as 'Jap Crap' by many bikers.

In fact those same era Japenese bikes are now demanding big money as classic machines.

I don't think the Sym scooter will reach the same classic status but nothing wrong with them either.

You want style - buy a Vespa 125 for 3 times the price and watch it fall apart.

Check out Sym, they are growing in poularity and have a good dealership spread for servicing and warranties.

Get a Honda C90.

"you can't kill a C90, you only slow them down" - Ed March, C90 adventures on youtube. Brilliant stuff!

Well here is the one my daughter decided she wanted...
https://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/suzuki-scooter/1175025037 (https://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/suzuki-scooter/1175025037)
Pleased I persuaded her to go in this direction, think she'll be happy riding it, I drove it the 30 miles home last night covering A roads, motorways, and 30mph roads and I reckon it's well up for the job, fealt really good, nippy to keep up with traffic and at points pull away from them!
Overtaking those trucks on the motorway was interseting :)
Fast enough to get upto 70mph :eek bit scary but could do it downhill and wind behind me but would certainly sit at 50mph with no hassle at all.
Wee clean and overhaul at wknd and it'll be ready for her after she does her CBT on Wednesday.

Oh meant to say....will need to remember when I'm riding it that to go up the gears I need to press the pedal down at ALL TIMES, nearly ended up going over the bars when I didn't! :eek :lol
PS, didn't pay the advertised price, after a haggle we agreed on £570 plus a pair of leather trousers thrown in by the seller :)
