Title: What is the most stupid thing you've seen another driver do . . . .
Post by: Skinbeatersam on 09 December 2011, 08:44:40 pm

This week, I don't know what it is, but I have come across men in white vans (all different men with different vans) who find it perfectly acceptable sitting at the wheel, smoking massive spliffs.

This reminded me of my mothers Iranian boyfriend, who loved driving about whilst drinking glasses of wine.

Dickheads obviously.

What is the most ridiculous thing you've seen whilst out riding.

That's easy, I saw my Father let my Mother drive once............ ;)
It's a good job she's not on the 'net anymore... :lol

Today I thought I saw a bloke holding a shell to his ear trying to listen to the sea while he was driving. I'm fairly sure it was just another wanker on his phone though.

Mother reading to her child, whilst moving along at 20-30mph, in heavy rush hour traffic.

Also, people reversing up the entry ramp to the a406, due to heavy traffic, and a desire not to be caught in it.

Not whilst riding, but whilst driving down the M23 last night. An ambulance, obviously in a hurry, with blues and twos going doing about 80mph (i was keeping pace at a reasonable distance) in the middle lane was overtaken by a matt black, 61 plate Audi A7 driven by a complete knob!

30 seconds later we hit the roadworks and the tail end of the traffic jam meaning that the amnulance then had to try to get back past the knob in the Audi.

Mr A7 Driver, you are a cock!

Red Astra 'van' on the Old Kent Road heading in to town 'drifting' about a little, the usual sign of someone on his phone - the man had his laptop open on his knees.

Wow.

I once saw a man with a van, following an ambulance as it sirened through the heavy traffic, leaving about 12inches between themselves.

most funny thing i have seen (as well as dangerous) was 6 years or so back.
driving round the north circ just past hanger lane in a milk tanker and a guy in a convertable BMW swearving a little at about 2am. i thought the normal phone or drunk but as i pass i see his other half (or who ever it may have been) head in lap giving him the blowjob of his life doing 40+

I followed a lady who had two dogs in her car, one of which was clambering over the dashboard. How on earth she could see where she was going I don't know!

A few years back on a rideout (those were the days) we pulled up at a T junction next to a young lad holding a mug of steaming hot coffee obviously intending to try and turn right with just one hand.

One of our group had a nice quiet educational "word" with him and you could tell from his expression that he could see nothing wrong with his actions????

Mind you when our guy offered to upend his boiling cauldron of nut broiler into his lap, he began to see the possible dangers. :eek

Heh Heh.

People are twats eh?? Sorry to hear about your YZF125. They are great bikes.

I quite like the story about the dude having a blowjob, Hanger lane can be quite dangerous. I would it if they had to emergency stop, and she bit his cock off. :-D

That'll learn em!!

I haven't seen anything that stupid today. Other than dickheads stuck in traffic on the A406, by Henly's corner blocking me in as I try to filter. Dog in the manger attitudes result in me taking your wing mirrors with me as a trophy . . . . . . (not really. I'm too nice)

During a gale a couple of years ago my late night commute home from work down the M3 was getting scary with branches and temporary road signs getting blown onto the road. I decided to come off a junction early in the hope that the A331 would be safer. After a mile or so I was even more alarmed when a car passed me... somehow managing to squeeze between me and the kerb, missing me by about an inch. A whole lane of dual carriageway available to overtake and the f*ckwit chose to use the occupied one to pass me up the inside.
It's not like he needed to be in that lane anyway, he turned right shortly afterwards... so I could only assume his intentions were to frighten the crap out of me. Mission accomplished, tosser. :2guns

Fucking idiot!! People like that need to be taken out of the gene pool.

I was nearly mown down by a lorry the other day for stopping at a pedestrian crossing to let some school kids cross. Luckily, I managed to accelerate out of the way without anything bad happening. The kids were just standing on the crossing, messing about, with no intention of crossing.

Still though, lorry should've made the effort to slow down.

Unfortunately, it was me driving the truck!!!!

It didn't help when the guy got out of the metro and said "It's a police car"
Well, I thought he did!
Turns out he actually said "It's a LEASE car"

people trying to read road atlas by resting it on sterring wheel!!

driving to work this morning, big white van pulls out in front of me, and instead of deciding to drive up the road, promptly stops to let a couple of pedestrians cross the road. Managed not to hit it.

Oh yeah, nearly forgot, said big white van also had POLICE written all over it. Fecking wanker.

A couple of weeks ago, driving home, approaching a blind bend.  Cyclist coming towards me emerges around the bend along with the car that has chosen the blind bend to overtake the cyclist.  I was travelling about 45.  I had to stand the car on its nose to come to a complete stop to avoid hitting the car head on!  Thanks you for sticky tyres and ABS

The couple of times I've had cars coming straight towards me on the motorway, one of them on realising their error doing a full swooping slow u-turn across 4 lanes of the M8.  Total chaos.  Old fellas both times.

No Idea. Probably the same way they check if a car is insured/licensed etc etc etc. I'm not against elderly people driving, but there are some elderly people who just REALLY shouldn't drive. I know there are some people who just really shouldn't drive full stop, but they COULD learn the skills they need to get better.

If you have failing eyes, ears, breathing and therefore, horribly slow reactions, then you shouldn't be on the road, unless you can drive to the fullest of your ability. When stepping into a car, you owe it to those around you to be able to control it perfectly.

I thought that at 70 years old, drivers had to undertake a medical to retain licence?

just googled it and this is what Direct line have on their website

There is no legal age at which you have to stop driving, so whether you renew your licence is totally up to the individual. It is your responsibility to decide whether you are still fit enough to drive. By law, you have to renew your licence when you reach the age of 70, and then every three years after that.
Ninety days before your 70th birthday, the DVLA should send you a D46P Application for renewal of a driving licence. You can either fill this in and return it by post, or you can use the DVLA's online service (http://www.dvla.gov.uk/) to renew. There is no fee for renewal.
If you have a C1 or D1 entitlement – for minibuses or towing vehicles – and you intend to renew this as well, you must enclose a D4 'medical examination report' completed by a doctor in support of your application.

The item in this weeks paper about the old chap driving round and round the M25 for two days because he didn't know where to turn off is a good example.

The thing is, it shouldn't be up to the drivers to decide if they are fine to drive. They should have someone actually check that they are fine to drive.

If they are fine, then great. If they are not, then tough.

That sort of thing happens all the time, 2 days is excessive though.

Alzheimer's, can be a real problem.  One loads of folks have it and two many don't yet know that they have it.  By the time they do know they have it they often don't fully understand what it means.

And even once a consultant has advised that a driving license be removed, well that's all very well, but don't expect the patient to remember that they are not allowed to drive.

My two favourites are -
1. speeding bloke  in  a car full of kids, obviously late  late for something , taking all the risks.....he texting, while an unseatbelted kid sits on his lap. Dont quite know how he was steering ...maybe the kid was the way he was swerving.....

2. elderly lady with those massive black glasses( for the blind)..revving her car at full rpm but only doing 3 mph, head out into the road from her drive without looking and everyone having to take avoiding action! I was working at a house 2 doors down at the time and saw it all happen !  :eek    Now who says the elderly can self regulate !

I should also include the complete impatient  tosser who tried to overtake a queue of cars for a mini roundabout by recklessly driving through an empty petrol station, braked too late for the give way, skidded and took me out while I had right of way.on said roundabout...choice quote " sorry mate ...I am a biker myself"....yeah, right .... then later changed his story after accepting liability at the scene...then changed his mind 2 days before our court hearing. The word is c*nt...

Yes, maybe I have actually seen it all !  :rolleyes

Again it is men with ven (My new plural word for vans) I was nearly hit on a pedestrian crossing by a dude, coming down a hill, using two hands to eat a Mc D's burger while he rolled over the crossing, causing me to stop in the middle.

I got a 'Sorry Mate I Didn't see you!!' accompanied by spitting, bits of the burger out of his fat face. Probably cos you weren't looking dickhead.

Also, my gorgeous girlfriend frequently gets ignored by arseholes, not recognising the pedestrian crossing at the end of our road (Despite it's flashing amber signals) and is nearly hit most mornings by people who just don't want to slow down. Foolish!!

An Evil Thought!! get her to push an empty old pushchair out int the road in front of her!!  I know it would shake up the driver but I've seen it done before and has startling effects!!

the road I used to live off had a bad reputation because it was a dead straight mile and a 40 limit but most drivers did well above it. in summer the speed dropped dramatically when a particular young lady used to walk down the road wearing ... well not much but just enuf to be covered!!

When returning from seeing Neely and Davy on my bike I was ambling down the motorway through the roadworks outside Glasgow doing 40mph, then, feck me, a car comes across from the outside lane and forces me to dodge traffic cones and end up in the lane that was getting the work done. After I gathered myself and emptied the shite out my boots I took off after said car, an old merc. When I got level with him, flipped visor up and looked at him  :eek It was an elderly man eating his dinner off a plate using a knife and fork and stearing with his upper legs. I told him he was a very bad man, or words to that effect.

Thankfully I was a passenger in a car at the time, going round a large roundabout on the inside lane when we suddenly had to stop. Coming towards us was an old banger with an elderly couple inside, going round the inside of the roundabout the wrong way. I gave up thinking about how on earth they could have got there.

a few years ago my buddy was towing his flatbed car trailer (heading home) when the traffic lights he was approaching changed to red. it was a bit of a brisk stop, but he had room and time. what he didn't expect was the bump and crash he suddenly felt, and upon looking in his rear view mirror could see an elderly lady in a corsa (IIRC) looking very pale and a lot closer than she should have been. turns out she had been tailgaiting him and when he stopped quickly the front of the car dipped, raising the back, lifting the towbar and thus lowering the rear of the trailer at just the right angle for the little old lady to bounce up onto the trailer.

same buddy used to import ex swedish army volvo trucks - 4x4 and 6x6 wheelbases. he'd travel over to sweden, buy the truck and drive it back, heading straight to the local DVLA office to register it. one time he'd parked a 6x6 in two spaces (yes, they're big) outside the DVLA office in Glasgow and came out to find a towtruck fitting the wheel clamps to lift the 6x6 volvo onto the flatbed to take to the pound. he just stood there and watched (in kinks) as the operator started the hoist to find that it wasn't up to the job of lifting the volvo and proceeded to instead roll the towtruck onto it's side.

in my early days of riding I used to carry a spanner in the top of my boot, it is amazing what a light tap on the window or door of a car would do to make drivers realise there wrong!!

although i have had some scary moments in my car, 1 time driving back to see a friend when a car cut me up at a roundabout. I pulled alongside him at the next set of lights and asked him if he knew his highway code, at which point he got out of his car went to his boot and pulled out a shotgun!!! yes officer I did go through the lights on red and yes I broke the speed limit!! however I drove to the local police station & reported him!!

he denied the incident and produced a licence for his firearm! whether it was renewed!!

Last night myself and my lady were driving home, when we came to a set of traffic lights, and waited behind about 4 or 5 cars. The lights went green, and yet, everyone failed to move. Obviously, there was some obstruction, and as I couldn't see, and it was late I declined in tooting my horn, and decided that I should be patient.

Anyway, the obstruction wasn't something serious other than some twat in a Carrera GT, who was chatting to his mates on the street, rather than paying attention to what's going on.

After about 5 Mississippi's, others started to beep the dude, so his mate got in the car and he then drove off, and slowed to about 5mph, to hold us all up. I could see, what was going on by this point, so I joined in the chorus of tooting to try and persuade him to drive normally, and stop being a selfish twat. He then opened his door and shouted, rather aggressively, for us all to 'fuck off' and then drove off, and then AGAIN, quickly slowed to 5mph. We had had enough, and a little Austin Metro type car started to over take him, so what do you think he decided to do??

That's right, he sped up to match the speed thwarting the little cars attempt and nearly forcing it into some island bollards.

The little car did manage to over take him, JUST, only to be met with tailgating, beeping and flashing high beams.

What a twat!!

In the end he went off to terrorize someone else.

Am very fed up of these people. Thinking of getting a camera, so I can shop these dudes . . . . . . . .

Haven't posted here for a little while. People haven't been driving as bad as all that, or if they have, then I haven't really paid much attention.

Had a good one the other day though. . . .

I was waiting at the lights on me Fazer and someone who looked like Dappy drove up in a Smart car.

I noticed that he was now on the phone (not a handsfree) He then decided to run the light at about 4mph, across the junction, then stopping at the pelican crossing. Realising he is a knob, he then reversed back to the starting point at about 2mph. (Does this mean he ran the light twice??)

Anyways, he finished his phone conversation, and then looked at me, and gave me that 'Bet I can beat the bike look', and failing to take his car out of reverse, nearly front ended the Merc, behind him when the lights changed.

Fool.

Recently sitting on a bench munching a sarnie. Young bloke in a pimped up Nova pulled up to the main road from a side road opposite. Then without being aware of the cars behind him waiting to turn left had to make A REALLY important call on his mobile. When the cars behind overtook him to exit the junction he gave each one the finger like it was all their fault. Turns out he was waiting for his girlfriend who was shopping. :rolleyes

Silly woman in a golf estate didn't look on one of the roundabouts on the A31 and just carried on over the roundabout without stopping to give way.  Jeez it scared the crap out of me, so I asked my wife to pull over in the next layby and I took over the driving....

Saw one in a BMW reading a broadsheet newspaper in heavy traffic.

A young lad in a tarted up Corsa belting past on my RHS when I'd indicated and positioned for it (the rest of the traffic passing on the left might have been a clue if his IQ was higher than his finger count).

A 4x4 coming the wrong way up a one-way road.

The one that amused me wasone I saw on my local news a while back - muppet following his twat-nav the the letter, twat nav took him off the road, and he nearly drove the car over a cliff. Another twat-nav fail was the wagon driver who followed the bloody thing blindly and got wedged between 2 buildings!

One of the most stupid things i seen a driver do was nearly knock my 6ft 5 19 stone mate off his bike,he then proceeded to stick two fingers up at him and drive off even more stupid.
His stupid mistake was soon corrected when he got stuck in traffic and my mate squeezed through his window grasping hands full of his neck. :lol

Brill, anyone got any good confrontation stories??

My mate, rugby prop on a bicycle, was nearly knocked off by knob in an Audi TT who wasn't looking when emerging from a junction. Called my mate a foccin twat, and then sped off. Of course my friend caught him up at the lights, took his keys from the car and then, basically made him apologise. Funny thing was, his passenger was siding with my friend, and helped convince this guy, that he was just a little rich boy twat.

:-)

Once saw a floozie driving a sports Merc run a red and nearly take out on a despatch rider in Tower Hill, his reaction was to simply laugh and shake his head. At the next set of lights he still kept his cool and pulled alongside to gently explain how stoopid she was but she wound up her window and gave him the finger. tsk
The despatcher responded by spitting a really massive nasty green gob on her windscreen and rubbed it all over nicely, the look on her face was a picture. Fantastic, and of course mopsy tries to wipe it off with her wipers making visibility through the screen nil. As the lights changed she couldn't move off, the last I saw was her getting out of her car armed with a tiny hanky to the sound of an angry horns from everyone behind.

 :evil :lol

Following a twat in a car who started to indicate left with a left turn approaching, all good so far.
He started to slow down for the turn and then stopped in the road, fortunetly i avoided him with my thumb firmly pressed on the horn.

I had a confrontation riding into London one morning, the A12 junction down to Charley Brown's roundabout. Some wanker is a beaten up piece of shit decided to cut in at the last minute because he thought he saw a gap, except that I was in it - I managed to swerve to one side and slow down in time (just) but I was a bit red-misty - so I booted the side of his (crappy) door and left a big boot mark down it.

I proceeded to filter down towards the roundabout, slowed down slightly by another biker in front that wasn't all that brave about squeezing through (it gets a bit narrow down the middle as you get down the off-ramp).

Anyway, a check of my mirror showed me that the bloke who's door I'd booted had abandoned his car at the top of the ramp and was running down the middle after me waving an effin' great iron bar. He looked like a wrestling version of side-show bob, so I shit meself.

I was mentally urging the guy in front to hurry the foc up, and I admit to a small flutter of panic as this guy was rapidly approaching my back. Luckily a coach had blocked the way ahead a bit (trying to stop the bikes filtering) but had left a 1 ft wide gap the other side of him, so I managed to get round the coach and ahead of the other biker - hoping to $deity that he didn't get a clobber in my stead.

I got away, but I learnt a valuable lesson that day - always check your escape route!

I don't even gesture any  more, just cos you don't know how mental that other person might be.

Seriously thinking about getting a helmet cam. That way I can just shop them all to the cops, and they can deal with it. :-)

Coming out of a T-junction onto a larger road, I see a woman in a car opposite clearly about to pull out in the direction I'm going. She totally fails to check her blind spot and pulls out to receive a blast on my horn.

She winds down her window and utters the immortal words "Sorry, I didn't see you". I look down at my headlamp and Hi-Viz and remark "That's because you didn't *LOOK*!"

Ok, I wasn't in any danger because I had been watching her, but hopefully she'll remember that so the next biker who isn't watching so carefully when she's pulling out doesn't get knocked off.

... or how well equipped.
A couple of years back a friend of mine arrived at work somewhat shaken after a minor cutting-in incident escalated to him having a handgun pointed at his face. :eek

Chased a bloke up the road some years ago in Canning Town who had the audacity to turn right at a T junction across me whilst swinging my bike lock chain over my head. Red mist moment.....

Anyone who knows Canning Town will instantly realise the foolishness of this action.

I used to live near Canning town. I understand.

I quite like the idea of a biker swinging his chain like a mourning star. Awesome!!

I've recently got really into watching peoples vlogs. They are pretty interesting. Here is a couple.

I think its avery valid point - you just do not know who is that other driver. Twice in the last 2 yrs I have experienced 2 incidents where the other driver totally exploded into road rage. Its funny now, but hey, who knows if either had a gun or machete...could have been tricky ! each time I was in my trannie, so was  quite easy to see...
One was  a taxi driver who cut straight in front of me( I pipped my horn , as much a reflex as deliberate),who then followd me for a half mile sounding his horn shaking his fist , even driving on the path to try to cut into me- incredible reaction  in a quiet daytime street...I just laughed at the asian tosser, especially as he had  a fare in the back ( poor sod! ), not very professional was he !  :rolleyes  ...... and the other was a car driver overtaking me while I was stationary  at traffic lights at well over the limit , passing so close its untrue.I was quite shocked cos he only just squeezed through the gap ...This utter loon then slowed right down after about 400 yards, drove at  normal speed for bit, slowed right down, then let me overtake, then overtook back and cut straight in front and emergency stopped trying to make me run into him. Then he drove off, indicated left then turned right , trying to again get me to run into him... All this at 10am..this ( caribbean) mans face was absolutely boiling. He must have been on drugs( fair assumption) cos his reaction was just so OTT for the incident.I turned off cos he just looked so mad a chat at the roadside was only ever gonna end up with one of us getting a thump or worse.I had no real axe to grind, and so I simply turned off  and  I let the twat go, but he could easily have caused  a quite bad accident for his lunacy. And yet people say its white van men who are bad drivers !  :lol
But on a serious note, I was unarmed, not in any sort of a rage, but the other drivers were so mad, if armed , would easily have used them.I try to avoid  such conflicts cos whatever the outcome its serious waste of time if the cops get called, or a possible jail if I ended up injuring or  killing the feckers with their own weapons, or hospital/ worse  if they got me !  :\ ... all for simple daft incidents on a  local road on the way to a job ! Maybe I have more sense these days ?? A few  years ago I would have jumped out the van and got stuck into both the idiots...

The cyclist in that first vid must end up reporting an awful lot of people, either that or he just likes to wind people up - he seems quite confrontational and seems to be completely belligerent. He also ignores the cycle lane quite a lot.

I soon learnt during my brief spell as a London motorbike courier that black cab drivers are far from the tourist image of the knowlegable gentlemen road users.

It is a prerequisite of their licence application to have all sideways motion of their heads disabled, presumably to facilitate use of their phones and remove the distraction of wing mirrors.

Not another driver, but this happened last night:

Coming home up Brixton Hill and the lights ahead are red so I'm filtering at maybe 15. The way the reds work is that it stops traffic in both directions so the other bit of a cross junction gets flow. As I pass a transit van an iditotic woman RUNS out, PUSHING A BABY CARRIAGE... I slam on the brakes, nearly overbalance and pull a muscle keeping the bike up. Front wheel pushes the pushchair maybe three inches back and I crap myself.
I eff and blind at her for being an idiot.
She gives me the finger and continues on like nothing's happened.

Arrrrrrrrrrgghh!

another 'not a another driver' - man walks across road outside Aldgate East tube this morning, pissed as a fart (at 8:30am?!) didn't look once; that's 5 lanes of belligerent rush-hour traffic to negotiate without looking up!...

i'm amazed he made it.

As a cyclist I think all this money spent on cycle lanes is a waste, if you use them you soon find out they have painted them were ever the road is wide enough and then they just stop where the road gets narrow  and harder to negotiate. In the case of the cyclist in this video he is travelling at a good speed and going past many cyclist in the cycle lane. I think he is to wound up but I think the road users giving him hassle are wound up and seem to think that he has to be in the cycle lane.
Where I live the cycle lane into town is on the pavement the surface is bad and there are traffic sign posts smack in the middle. I cycled at 17 mph on a pavement past gate ways !

I used to frequent the steam rooms in Canning Town years ago, this was a popular after-work meeting place for  London cabbies, they made up about 90% of the clientel. There was a 'jokey' sign on the main Steam room door, it said 'No poofs' and this was almost weekly 'defaced' with someone writing 'No coons either' or some other desperately intelligent proclamation against blacks/jews/indians etc.
You get the picture? A lot of them are still like that, you still see them driving past black people who are hailing and stopping for whites just yards further on. Incredible.

It should have read '' cycled at 17mph. On the pavement NOT!  I cycle on the road leaving the pedestrians safe.

driving home from work a couple weeks ago when white van man pulled out from a parked position, hitting my car and gouging a big dent in the side of my car starting from the passenger door all the way to the back. When i got out he had the audacity to ask me why I hadn't seen him pulling out!! I pointed to the damage to my car explaining patiently to him that the reason I didn't see him pulling out was because the front of my vehicle was already past when HE pulled OUT!!!  It gets worse.....got a phone call from my insurer last night informing me that white van man  has decided that he sustained an injury during the collision and has decided to claim damages against me.....my insurers have written to the silly bugger explaining to him that he can't claim damages when it was his fault that the collision occured.....I know it's a cliche but white van man really doesn't do himself any favours in thge popularity department......thick buggers the lot of them!!!

careful....thats slander.... ;)

just consider this....the most popular vehicle is a white van, so proportionately it is quite reasonable to expect more bad driving from them...and as the vehicle is mostly used by employees not owners, engaged in multi drop tasking ... well maybe it could be said its really only to be expected....

so get off the " whitevan band wagon" !

I have been in the car with my dad and he has had his arms through the steering wheel steering with elbows and peeling a satsuma whilst doing 60  down country roads..
just to top it off he let the peelings fall over the clocks and i think they stayed there for a few days before he moved them.

All my moaning just fell on deaf ears. but that's parents for you. they know best.

White van men...

Starting a new job in 2003 at a marine engineers (before the smoking ban came in), I'd been sent on my first day with another mechanic (Liam, if memory serves) to look at a fishing boat 20 miles away. He duly explained to me how everything worked at this firm, and explained also that this particular customer took a particular pride in his boat (smoking was off-limits, and to be very careful not to get the boat dirty with overalls etc). Because we couldn't smoke on the boat, we smoked in the van instead, and one of the first "tricks" he showed me was how to steer using his knees, whilst rolling a cig with wrists atop the steering wheel.....

My usual trick was to roll a load of cigs the night before, which was much easier than trying to do it on the job.
