so give me your opinions/experineces on Z8's, M5's, PR3's etc.
route will be uk to rome solo with luggage (2days of motorway, 1000miles) then twisties back to france 2 up then a fast 500 miles back to le havre.
i like a tyre that drops in a bit, then is stable on it's side, but i also want at least 6k wear (so it's decent at 3k) and reasonable wet grip.
i would describe my riding style as 'makes progress at all opportunities'.
go on, amaze me.

i would go for pr2.good allrounder. ur prob gonna be drivin thru alot a different weather conditions and that one can handle it all. cheaper now with pr3's out and u shud easily get 7000

Another vote for PR2's. Was impressed with their ability to inspire more confidence in the rain than I usually have

I'd go for PR3s. They feel "better" all round, it's particularly noticable in the wet though. They'll last longer than the 2s as well, so money wise it's not different over the long term, you just get more stickiness for your money IMO.

Personally, I'm looking forward to trying out the new Bridgestone coming out in a few months, the 23 replacement

a very stable tyre, didn't want to turn as fast as i did. i think i got 4.5K out of them

i s'pose......i still on first tyre and this first 1000 i owned so nice to know. usin a pirelli diablo sport at the mo. only ridin dry weather on fazer. (whimp i know)

i found that pr2's had a funny wear pattern and the handling really went off after 3k

been pricing up and 3's are £13 more expensive than 2's

Check out other tyre threads, I got flamed recently for having the temerity to suggest that 2's were better than 3's because my tyre guy said so (through his experiance) by some one who reads a lot of magazine reports

The general wisdom is that the PR3's are better in the wet but wear a bit more.
 
PR2's are by far the best all round tyre I have tried and I do a fair bit of riding.
 
We fit loads at the shop and not had any bad feedback.
 
About £250 a pair fitted as I recall.

I almost feel foolish suggesting something as old fashioned as 023's, but I still think they are brilliant.  In an ideal world, the PR2/PR3 is probably superior, but when things start to go south, the 023 is just so forgiving. You have to be a real clutz to make them let go because they just complain instead of giving up. On a proper long journey, such as the one you are planning, I would be thinking of fitting new 023's at least two weeks before hand so they were properly broken in and I was properly used to them before setting off.  They will survive low pressures, bad weather, being patched and still get you there, and when conditions are ideal, they are still more then good enough to put a bloody big grin on your face. Could you get an extra 3 or 4 mph on that 100mph sweeper if you were on PR3's? Perhaps. But will your PR3's get you to your hotel after you have plugged the hole left by a nail 1,000 miles earlier?

Definitely think from experience the M5 is the best tyre with the PR3 a close second.
Grip above all else wet or dry then the M5
Need the tyre to to last a little longer then the PR3

Previously used pirelli diablo corsa's which were excellent, when rear wore out i bought a diablo 'less sticky' I hated it and had no confidence with it. It's finally worn out, so i bought bridgestone bt 014's which are an old tyre design  from circa 2005. I absolutely loved them on my gsxr, so bought them for the fazer. Brand new front and rear has less than 100 miles on it for £100. I know they will wear out really quickly, but it will be fun doing it
