Clicking from clutch area ?
« on: 15 May 2016, 09:20:04 pm »
Riding back from Colchester today and the clutch started to feel a bit sloppy/slippy and generally not able to hold the engine load that well when pulling off from a standstill, gear changing seems fine. I thought it might have just got a bit hot? Just had a play with the lever in the garage and when pulled in just a few MM I can hear a little click from the engine and I assume clutch...? Any thoughts ? il see how it is tomorow obvs but thought I'd ask.
Thanks
Toby

Does the click sound like it is on the left side or right?

I just changed my clutch and serviced the mechanism this weekend.
The cable and mechanism is on the left side, which pushes a pushrod through the engine to separate the plates on the right side.

It's maybe a snapped clutch spring. That would click and reduce the plate pressure, or perhaps the centre clutch boss has failed. It's cast aluminium and one of the legs might have snapped off.

That sounds like it could be the bearings in the device in the sprocket cover that pushes on the rod that operates the clutch. It's in an exposed area yet Yamaha totally ignore it from a servicing point of view.

Check the sprocket cover bolts are tight.  They can start to slacken off and the sprocket cover moves slightly when you pull the clutch in making a click
