tail / brake light
« on: 14 October 2014, 07:26:13 pm »
Bit of a silly question but am not with my bike so cannot check. I understand there are two bulbs in the rear light unit. One bulb works normally, however the other does not illuminate *unless* I'm braking. Ie it's not working as a tail light bulb, only as a brake light bulb. Those bulbs seem a bugger to access - just a case of changing the bulb or is there a loose connection? I need the bike for a 100mile comute everyday so advice appreciated!

They are a double filament bulb so it sounds like the normal running light filament isn't working, once the original tool kit is out of the way they are pretty easy to change.

I buy a box of 10 stop and tail bulbs £2 from a local battery suppliers.

I am sure that both bulbs should be on and both act as a brake light bulb and tail loght - both having two filaments one big and one small (i fink)
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.

Thanks chaps, I have just bought replacement bulbs. Will replace both with hopefully brighter ones to help me in this awful weather. Good to know it's just a matter of removing the tool bag  :)

Everyone seems to swap the front for brighter ones esp those with boxeyes, but never thought of swapping the rear for brighter ones - perhaps a good saftey tip. But what bulbs?.

There was a foccer on here some years ago that made LED replacement tail light assemblies. It may have been Nooj but it was a long time ago.
Another ex-Fazer rider that is a foccer again

I find changing the rear bulbs to be a pain in the 'arris to be honest - what with trying to access them through the tail. Perhaps my hands are too big................

I now have the LED tail light unit, which also has built in indicators, although i left my original indicators on anyway, they both light up in sync okay.
