FZS600 - Cat B, but most bits are good, £250
« on: 28 July 2013, 07:22:32 pm »
Hey guys,

Got my old bike back the other day, unfortunately when I agreed to take it I hadn't found out it was a Cat B write-off, so it can never go back on the road. So I have it sat here at home, and I just want it gone. I'm asking £250 because that is what I paid, and just don't want to lose money.

The bike; 1999 FZS600, 52,600 on the clock. I've got the last MOT cert for it, the V5 and the bill for the last service - headbearings and sprockets, which was August last year.

It has a rear hugger, plenty of meat on the tyres, both wheels are fine, and a (scratched) Givi topbox. I have all the keys etc for it of course! Oh, and engine bobbins, although the right one is very worn down now!

Problems:
Forks bent
Bars bent
Yokes or risers bent (not sure which)
Front mudguard smashed
Front fairing damaged
Front right indicator smashed
Front right crank casing has a small hole
General scratches
Front brake lever broken

While the casing has a hole in, when I crashed I wasn't injured - most of the damage was done by the BMW it slid into (not my fault), I jumped back up and hit the kill switch, so the engine is still good as far as I am aware. (if anyone has a spare piece of casing, we'll put it on, chuck some oil in and give it a go...)

Any questions people, just say! I'm pretty gutted it was a cat B, I was looking forward to riding again. I'm in Oxfordshire, near J10 of the M40 and my number is 0779 089 5556.

This was on the tank when I bought the bike, seems fine though.

Scratches both sides. Still works fine though:

Exhaust is a little scratched, but all good:

Hole in the casing and worn engine bobbin. The casing hole must have been created by hitting part of the car, as it couldn't hit the road. You an also see that the rest of the exhaust is fine, and the downpipes aren't rotten.

Why not just buy another frame & V5 off ebay for £150 & transfer stuff across to it?

If not, I'd be interested in having the monorack off it if for a good price you want to sell it separate

Because I'm off travelling around America for a few months very soon, and the parents won't appreciate a broken, useless bike laying around taking up space. Plus, cost of frame AND the bits it already needs means I won't save much. AND I'm mid way through rebuilding my BMW, and don't want another project :p

Pity indeed mate!

Got one guy from here interested, he's trying to get shipping quotes though. If there's anyone remotely local, I'd suggest grabbing it for spares! Next time you need tyres? Just sling these wheels on. Problem with a part? Nick it off this!

Hi mate, if it helps I used an ebay courier that turned out to be very cheap. They will give you a good deal if you don't mind waiting for space in a van going the same way. The seller is Spiritcouriers (think we paid 100 to get a cbr600 from Liverpool to the southcoast)

Thanks! I've got a mate who could probably just do it with his van, but that's if the guy gets back to me again!

Just to clarify with people, in case people didn't see it - Cat B means it's a write off. It can never be put on the road again with this frame (legally), the advert is for a bike that would be good to use as spares.

Thankyou all!

I'm back in the UK now, so if anyone wants this, just say!

I've found a pretty cheap frame nearish to me too, if people want me to fetch that at cost:
