Title: Who on earth
Post by: richfzs on 06 July 2012, 08:10:52 pm
needs to be told this?

Specific Carbtune extra instruction:DO NOT SUCK CARBTUNE WITH YOUR MOUTH.
That little sentence comes from Morgan when you order their Carbtune.... Who on earth tried it, made them selves ill and (presumably) tried to sue, to make them even think of putting this sentence in the order confirmation email?!?

Trouble is, there's an awful lot of stupid people out there who would try it.....Manufacturers are now having to state what *not* to do with products to avoid being sued.

IIRC it all started after an American sued Flymo after using a lawnmower to trim a hedge because "there was nothing in the instructions that said I couldn't use it as a hedge-trimmer".

and even if there had been Flymo would have lost the case. There has to be a large obvious label on the device itself because users cannot be expected to read the instruction manual.

Wasn't it in America that someone put their cat in the microwave to dry it out? Sued and won because the manufacturer hadn't explicitly made clear microwaves weren't suitable for drying wet pets...

Another, more well known example, "objects may be closer than they appear" etched in to car wing mirrors.

I bought some festive lights a few years back (made in China) and the packaging said in bold type, "FOR INDOOR AND OUTDOOR USE ONLY". I never did work out what the alternative could be :o/

That is just so you don't get them confused with the not so popular ACME Pan-Dimensional Lights which can be used in situations other than those you stated
