Been looking for a luggage rack to carry my rather large kit bag to work. Couldn't find one big enough, so I knocked one up from bits of box section I had lying around.
Renntec run in fear, stevies own rack has landed! Cost about a tenner too :))

couple of small wheels on that, it'll make a decent wheelie bar...
-
It is a bit huge, but so is the kitbag I've got to carry. I was going to stand the bike up on it in the garage to save a bit of room.

I like that, definitely better than what I'd manage
-
Nice neat solution. :thumbup
Does the £10 include the labour? :D
-
I might be wrong but you may have trouble come MOT time , sharp edges and corners ect but looks like a great bit of work

You've got a point there, I might just have to remove it come MOT time :thumbup . Takes about 30 seconds with a ratchet.
I might also have a HUGE top box on by then! :lol :lol
-
very tidy...well fabricated :D
-
So you going to take orders from your ham-fisted fellow foccers now? I know I'd have one!

I can certainly 'knock one up' if anyone has any special requirements. :D

how much for one of these racks
I wouldn't have a clue tbh. I priced up new metal for jazz and it came to about £18. Erm 25+p&p?

Not sure tbh, you might have to look it up on one of the websites that does racks and see if the part numbers are the same. I'm fairly confident that they are the same tail unit though. Can anyone out there confirm this?
-
ok bud will investigate.
-
I think you've found a gap in the market!
-
good product that,go into production and you`ll soon RACK up a fortune :rollin :rollin :rollin

Maybe a short piece of box section in between the section nearest the seat would aid in protecting the paint on your bike more, tis a good looking rack tho and well priced. What about colour coding them for some extra cash ?
-
Yep, just found a little bit of paint rub where my bag has caught the paint behind the seat. Ill be putting a piece of tubing in there for the next one methinks. Thanks for the observations, as everything that's manufactured, its a constantly evolving design.
As for colour coding, well I'd have to source the correct paint per bike at quite a cost, and I'm not the greatest of sprayers. Probably not a good idea for me to do it tbh, I'd only screw it up:))

you could just sell them bare or prime them

Yep, whatever the buyer wants really.
-
hello bud checked out the size mine is 50mm front centre of bolt to bolt. so would like one of these racks will it come in blk like picture and how would you mlike payment.
-
No problem, ill make a start on it this afternoon. I can make the rack slightly smaller if you want to fit a top box, or leave it the way it is. It is quite large though! And yep ill do it in gloss black smoothrite. Might take a day or two to dry though. :D
As per payment, you can do a bank transfer, or PayPal. Transfer is preferable though, ill pm you my details when I get cracking with the rack.

what you reckon.
-
Ha,ha, its the same one I've got my eye on. :o cheap and cheerful, but I think quality is a bit low. Does the job though. Ill keep the rack the same size, but put a couple more cross bars in to support the baseplate.

ok bud sounds great

Let me know how it works out, looks like exactly what I'm after!

Well the build phase has been completed, now for the paint.
What do you think?(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/02/08/qazy8upe.jpg)

-
bloody hell. You don't hang around looks great pm me your details so i can transfer the dosh thanks bud.
-
Just had a look this morning, and the paint hasn't quite gone right (too cold last night maybe) so ill flat it back and try again today with a heater on it. Ill probably be able to post it on Monday.
-
thanks for the update bud.
-
Here's my 'work donkey' all kitted up for the morning commute. Its what the rack was built for.
Paint is now on, and its looking pretty good. Fan heater made a world of difference to the paint(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/02/08/eve3adym.jpg)

ok great.
-
wouldn't it be easier to move than lug that around everyday? :lol
-
Doing 12 hour shifts atm, feels like I'm never away from work. I was thinking of moving in there. It'll save me 200 miles per week!
-
Hiya.
I'm interested in one of these too :-).
Please can you tell me if it allows the pillion handle to be fitted as well ?
Also curious if the 3 fitment holes (as per this pic http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages/showimage.aspx?gid=336432&image=643854630&images=643854630,643854651,643854666&formats=0,0,0&format=0 (http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages/showimage.aspx?gid=336432&image=643854630&images=643854630,643854651,643854666&formats=0,0,0&format=0)) are needed for fitting a top box ?
Your feedback and/or tweak ideas would be appreciated :-)
Simon

No you can't fit the pillion handle unfortunately, the box section steel is a bit too big for that. I could possibly add a grab handle to the rack made out of box section.
As for the holes in the photo, well most top boxes come with a fitting kit that includes adjustable bars that can be bolted through the mounting plate. I've fitted a few boxes to Renntec racks this way in the past.
-
Hi guys this is the rack stevie made for me for my foxeye 2003 it fits great. I recommend this item to everyone very well made and fits perfect.
-
Sorry for the picture quality.
-
Hi Stevie,
Please can you PM me your details for this ? I'd be interested in one as per scottsmith1972 with a pillion grab handle if possible :-)
-

Just finished doing my fz1 rack this afternoon. I made it so its removable for those days when you just want to ride.(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/02/27/e4ezarup.jpg)
At the moment it just slides out, but there will be two location bolts fitted to secure it in place.

Hi Kenny, get yourself on the intro page and say hello to the rest of the madhouse.
I'm making a rack for SimonM next week, so there would be a bit of a delay making one for you as time off work is getting a bit scarce atm.
I'm doing the racks for £40 posted of its painted. If you can get it powder coated, the finish would last a lot longer and it would be £35 from me.
Ill give you a shout when I can get time off if you like.

The Fz1 rack is finished. I won't be making any of these for anyone as it took me a considerable amount of hours to make, and it wouldn't be cost effective to buy.
But here's my finished article.

As its modular, undo two bolts and your left with just the rails.

I can put more photos on if anyone's interested in making one for themselves. Material costs were about £20-£25 without paint, but it takes quite a while to make the rear suppporting bracket under the seat.

hi stevie, I am usless on a computer, how do I find the intro page ??
cheers
kenny
-
If you go to the foc-u main page and look at the grey index bar near the top, its second tab from the left saying 'forum'. Click that then click on 'introduction' which is top of the list.
Open a new topic, introduce yourself to everyone then wait for the circus to start.:D

hi stevie
I think I have done it correctly, time will tell lol :lol

My Givi rack from my 03 foxeye fits my 99 boxeye...
-
just notice this thread.
incase anyone want to know the early Fazer's inc 02 and 03 models share the same rear ends.oops it seem that they dont according renntec.
seems rather strange considering the expense of altering the jigs when only the cosmetics were changed inc lights.
I have thought about making them before but I couldn't do it cheap enough for you guys certainly not for 40 quid.
-
I believe that the rear foot rests are in a slightly different place. The Fox eye ones are slightly lower iirc.
