Might be after the phone number of who you booked with
We went with booking.com, however, we met the owner of the apartments and he confirmed that these websites take about 15% off the money he receives as administration fees. So we had a chat, and we're booking directly with him next year. I also discovered, booking.com is a Dutch site, so they're not even paying UK taxes!

Is that on an excursion to Egypt. My pals sister used to be a guide there, until it got a bit tricky for westerners, Arab Spring, and all that.
No, it's not in Egypt. Its just outside Paphos and thinking about it, it may not be called the valley of the kings

Cyprus, nice . North or South?
South - it's quieter for UK tourists

Glad you enjoyed your first motoring vacation, despite a baptism of fire regarding parking charges and traffic jams. My cousin was at Camber Sands a few days back, where the beach car park charges £30 for the day, or any part of the day, so £30 for a few hours. Needless to say he parked further away in a pay and display.
And the destinations wander why they have no punters, what with exorbitant parking charges, clean air zones, high accommodation costs etc. We're going to Cyprus for two weeks - for less than a week in this country (and we'll have guaranteed sunshine lol).

Thankyou for putting this info up - I stand corrected (and I'll pass the message along).Cue - the resurrection of ratty, rotten, rusty Transit minibus's, with religious connections painted all over the bodywork Still feel sorry for you chaps though - along with Birmingham, Bristol & Bath, London won't be getting any of my money in it's economy.

ULEZ - I feel sorry for the people this is hitting, it really is an unfair tax. The other day that it would appear that Khan has exempted certain religious minorities from the ULEZ charge when they are on their way to a place of worship. I couldn't believe it, but a little research later and it appears that this is the case!
Having done a bit more research, I discovered that there are nearly 4 million Muslims in this country and only 3.4 million motorcyclists!
So, who's in the foccing minority?

Here is a cheap idea - Take the key and heat up a lot of candle wax. Cover the key completely with the hot wax. Leave to cool. Place in a freezer bag just to make sure.

Well, I am now officially a Cager
It's a 2012 Skoda Fabia Mark 2 with about 81,000 miles on the clock and cost me just under £4000. I did try to haggle the price down a bit (just because I wouldn't have been satisfied if I hadn't ) they didn't go for that, but they did chuck in a 15 month warranty for half price, so I was happy enough.
Today my partner and I were planning to go to a local pub for a meal, but, as we were driving up there, we noticed a lot of people with Portsmouth FC shirts on, so decided to go a bit further to a Toby carvery which was very nice indeed.
I still need to get used to the car as my control is a little dodgy eg the clutch/ accelerator balance and at some point I need to sit in it and read through the manual because there's a couple of things on the small LCD screen on the dash that I'm not sure what they mean. Also, at one point, I managed to switch on the rear windscreen wiper and then couldn't figure out how to switch the damn thing off again until I got us parked!
Oh well, anyway, in a few days I'll be driving it down to Croyde for a surfing holiday and then I can bring my boards back with me to use them down here over the winter
Glad you're sorted - nice long warranty as well.

I have a big shed, but I'd have to do any car maintenance on the road outside...
Done that before - far from ideal. Pissing down with rain, changing a head gasket on a 1300 Allaggro.

Thanks.
Their garage said it could be a problem with a wheel bearing and they're looking at it at the moment.
I hope to hear back from them in the next couple of days.
There are times when I'm glad that I can tackle small jobs myself - and not leave it in the hands of a minimum wage mechanic at the garage. Having said that, the Chrysler is due MOT in September - just happens to be whilst we're on holiday abroad. So I've booked it in the day before we go and if its anything small, I'll leave it with them and let they can carry out the necessary at their leisure and it'll be ready when we get back. Should see 196K this week, made out of recycled babybels , what could possibly go wrong .

Is the Mrs. still catching the bus or have you sorted her some wheels yet?
Her son lent her a '60 plate Ford Focus - she quite likes driving it, except its not automatic.

Have you got your car yet Grahamm?
Not yet.
The Dealer wasn't sure how long it would take to get the things I mentioned previously fixed as local garages are pretty busy at the moment, so I booked the RAC inspection for the 24th (ie a week tomorrow)
But what I'm going to do is call the RAC again and see if they've got an earlier date and, if that's available, check if the car's back from the garage and try to move the inspection up a few days.
Lol - I maybe joining you in the hunt for a suitable vehicle (only this one is for the wife). Her SAAB died spectacularly a week or so ago and I don't really have the time to spend repairing it)

Yeesh! That's worrying on two counts: Firstly that someone would be stupid enough to cover up warning lights on safety critical systems and secondly that it could get through several MOTs before someone noticed that the lights weren't coming on when they should...!
Unfortunately, the people(?) that carry out this sort of fraud are not stupid. More likely to be a second hand car dealer that's been left with a pig on the sales lot. Paid a couple of hundred quid for the lights "too go away", then sells the vehicle onto unsuspecting innocent punter. As for the testers? Do they pay attention to that detail every time they put a key in and turn on the ignition? Unlikely - you only tend too look after the engine has started to see if there are any fault lights illuminated.

Good to see that you're looking at reviews. So many of todays new drivers (young ones) seem to only want to buy whatever looks good in the Maccy D's carpark irrespective of long term issues.

Still looking for a car, but I've widened my search to include the Volkswagen Polo and Seat Ibiza because they're effectively the same car, although the VW costs more because of the name and the Seat because it tends to have higher spec...!
That's not a bad shout - I looked at Mondeo's and then found the X-Type Jags were cheaper and higher spec.

Don't go there. Great advice unless you live within the catchment area, then what. Either £12.50 every day you use it, sell it, move or have moody plates made up.
I admit that introducing an unfair form of taxation based on location is a bit much, however, the local economy will suffer when the punters vote with their feet. Those that cannot move, will inevitably face higher prices/taxes, as the revenue stream dries up. I had a customer at Bristol Airport - I don't go there anymore as the easiest route to the airport from the M5, now takes you into the ULEZ zone and subsequent charges. I feel sorry for people going on summer holiday and just following the signs (not ).

I’d agree on the “luxobarge” suggestion, although as more towns and cities adopt “compliancy” eg ULEZ, perfectly good cars like your Chrysler and my diesel Vectra will have to be sold, or pay through the nose every day your car is used. It would seem diesels are a big no-no now
It's simple - especially if you don't live in a ULEZ environment. Don't go there! I've now taken London, Bristol & Birmingham off my wife's list of shopping haunts lol, whether we're on the bikes or in the car. Diesels are not as bad for the environment as the media make out. #1. It's cheaper to produce (from a carbon footprint point). #2. It's one of the first products from the refining process. #3. Diesel engines tend to last longer, therefore requiring less maintenance per mile and the associated carbon footprint thereof. #4. When I "recharge" my tank, I know that I have a definite 500 mile range and that there are generally fuel sources along the way. Oh, and it takes 10 minutes max to recharge at the end of that 500 mile sector .

I tried to get a test drive in the "Boy Racer" one last week, but just got voicemail and left them a message.
I called them again yesterday, only to find they'd sold it on the weekend.
So I called the other showroom...
... and they'd sold theirs on the weekend too..!!
Oh well, I'm not in a rush, so I'll keep looking.
That size car is in short supply - ideal first car, ideal runabout etc etc. I know it's not helpful due to costs, but have you tried looking at what is called a "Luxobarge". I picked up a Chrysler 300CRD Touring on a 56 plate for less than 2k. Any change left over went towards the insurance costs. For a 3.0l V6 diesel automatic, I can get approx 45mpg on the motorway, 500 mile tank range. Massive inside.
