Has anyone got a couple of radiator end covers kicking about that they don't need anymore? Same with a radiator grille which protects the rad from stones etc.

Thanks.

Chris, I do want it, did you get my PM??

Have you spoken to Gaz1978? I know he has a set but I think you would need to get a top yoke machined up.

Right, I could do with the Faring (on its own ) and the infil panels. I can come and pick them up over a weekend. Please let me know if the other two don't want them.

Well, i thought that because all the reports i'd seen on here about the R6 shock were all praising it, i thought id save the additional £150 it would have cost to get a Maxton and fit the R6 shock instead.

But i havent really ridden it properly yet, so maybe it will be fine. If not i'll get myself a Maxton or something similar and sell the R6 shock on here.

Where's he gone??

33

Ok, apologies if this has been done.

As the R6 shock was not an OE fitment (Obviously) on the Fazer 1000, i wondered if it would be a good idea to gather together the Shock settings from the people who have fitted one. Along with weight and riding style.

Mine is as follows (as set up by Devilsyam himself)

Preload - 4th notch up from minimum

Compression - Dont really know, i wound it up 70 clicks from original setting with a 3mm allen key but never came to the end, wound it 60 clicks back from the original setting and never came to the end there either. Is this right???

Weight - 105 Kilos

Riding Style - Quick-ish on the road (there's always someone quicker, but not a great amount of them!).

And as this post fades into the distance with no replies ............................................

34

That was basically what I was thinking. The R6 Shock feels softer than my original one, so I'll just crank it up to the max for the trip, then re set it when I get there. Should I bother messing with the damping you think? Just increase by a couple of clicks maybe? I think I'll start a thread about what people have theirs set on, their weight and riding style, see if we can't get some kind of database going for settings.

I have just fitted the R6 Shock (supplied by Devilsyam RIP 2 years ago) to my Gen 1 Fazer 1000. I haven't really had a chance to push on and really test out the new shock, but I may have to do a long trip with the girlfriend and luggage. Does anyone know what I should be setting the Shock to??

I'm interested in the aftermarket infill panels, can you be a little more specific about these? Do they fit either side of the tank and go up around the clocks? Any chance of a pic?

Thanks for the reply, but they are not the right ones. The ones im after are the metal plates which fit on the inside of the mudguard into the base of the indicator stem, they prevent to indicators falling off.

Pie-eater, no offence or slight taken, I just thought I would explain myself more thoroughly. My experience is my experience, and I loved my Fazer even with no valve in it at all, but I've got to say that fitting the EXUP valve did calm down the propensity for it to rear up and smack me in the face. LOL!!!

« on: 17 June 2020, 02:53:45 pm »
Ok, I have my newly powdercoated wheels sitting here, all bearings and seals fitted, just waiting for the discs to go back on, so this is kind of urgent. I need the torque settings for the front and rear disc bolts, I'm not going to just hammer them up like the last guy must have done. Anyone help??

I had no EXUP at all for a couple of years on my Gen 1, I just got used to it, just don't expect any power below 3K, it will pull away below that, but it is limp. Seizing open is a lot better than it seizing closed.
It sound's like you're saying - if it's broke don't fix it, it'll perform like shit at low revs, but don't worry as you won't know any better, there are two levels of shit performance you may be lucky enough to have a less shit experience !!!

In terms of advice for a new owner I'm wandering how beneficial this is, did you get your EXUP fixed, would you reccomend getting the EXUP fixed or leaving it seized?

Given that a major part of the appeal of these bikes is the ability to pull from low revs thanks to the EXUP (Ivans kit & 4 degree advancer also help) there is no way you're experiencing the bike as it was designed if you have a non functioning EXUP. If you got the bike cheap as a hack to faff around on then sure leave it as is and get your moneys worth but there are probably better options out there.

At the time I was in one of two riding modes, either just getting around, or going for it. In the first mode I didn't care about having little bottom end because I didn't really need it, I just rode around it, in the second, I spent all of the time above 6K so it didn't matter that the EXUP wasn't there. I just got used to riding around the lack of bottom end in the first mode.
I did eventually get the EXUP sorted but it was expensive, around £200 from what I remember, I know the EXUP cover plate was £145 on its own. Then £35 for the pulley, etc, etc. Please note, i'm not moaning, it is what it is.

What im saying is you just get used to it, just like riding a two stroke which has no bottom end till you hit the power. It isn't that bad, I only fixed mine because of the worry it gave in very specific circumstances, like being in a bar in Belgium, after having parked on a very cambered road with a rucksack with so many beers in it, it had to be put on my back after id mounted the bike, a couple of beers which may have been drunk were involved too. I just knew that I would have been happier if I had the confidence to open the throttle at 1500 rpm and it would just go. I had the money to fix it well before this time, but I really didn't have a good enough reason to do it.
Plus (and I know that this flies in the face of popular opinion on here) my experience of an Ivanised bike is not as good as my dynojetted bike, Ive had both. But I'm hoping that I get to have a go on someone else,s Ivanised bike so I can join in the praise of this modification. It must be good, I just think I had a not so good one (no slight on "Ivan" here, just a "slow" engine). All bikes are slightly different I know, but side by side, my dynojetted bike had more grunt all through the rev range than my Ivanised bike. I sold my dynojetted bike to a close mate, and we did many roll on tests, I lost every one on the Ivanised bike.

I've since bought my old bike back and sold the Ivanised bike, even though it was a much nicer bike in much better condition.

Please note - I'm note after a row here, just saying what I have experienced.

I had no idea we had lost him.

Has anyone got a couple of those plates that fit into the base of the indicator stem on the inside of the rear mudguard which secure the indicators in place?

In anticipation of my local bike shop making a mess of my front offside calliper trying to get a snapped bleed nipple out. Has anyone got one knocking about they would like to sell? The closer to Stoke the better really so I can drive and pick it up.

General / Re: what did you do with your fazer today ?
« on: 16 June 2020, 04:29:49 pm »

So, as i said a couple of weeks ago, I sold the Fazer and bought my old one back. Its really clear how much faster and crisper it is compared to the Ivanised one. But, as was said a long time ago, some bikes are just quicker than others.

Anyway. I want to do it in KR Yellow with speed blocks, and, as I need new tyres I thought i'd get the wheels powder coated gold, so they don't have to come off again.

So over the past couple of days I have -

Removed the wheels
Removed all bearings except for the needle roller bearings from them
Removed all the front disc bolts apart from 3, Dean at the powder coaters is removing the rest
Removed none of the rear disc bolts, even with my windy gun I just couldn't shift them, again Dean to the rescue there
Dropped the wheels off at the powder coaters
Drove from Stoke to Telford to pick up my new Michelin Road 4's, then dropped them off at Dean's.
Matched and bought the front bearings at a local specialists
Drove from Stoke to Stourbridge to pick up a rear wheel bearing kit (the needle rollers are stuck in so I couldn't match them at the bearing specialists). Why do all this driving I hear you ask? I just don't trust the post office/Couriers to get stuff here when they are supposed to at the moment, and time is precious, I need it done and MOT'd by Friday.
Snapped a bleed nipple off, so I've taken it to Foleys Bike shop to get it removed.
Bought new disc bolts front and rear at a quid each while I was there.
Fitted the R6 shock I've had in the garage for about 2 years
Greased all bolts and linkages
Fitted new front braided hoses, just waiting for the missing calliper to return so I can bleed them up.
Made some bearing drifts out of the old bearings with a grinder
Cleaned off the sprocket carrier and fitted the new bearing and seal, dragged my 9 year old lad off his phone to show him how its done
Changed the fluid in the rear brake and bled it up
Fitted my electrics distribution, so I just have to wire into a connector block for 12V power instead of having multiple connectors under the battery terminals

All in all I can safely say, I have not wasted my first 2 days of my holiday at home. Still pissed off that I couldn't go to France though. The lads are not going to be happy when we get there in July and the first thing we have to do after 600 miles of riding is weed the front yard so we can get the bikes in then cut the lawn so a couple of tents can be put up.

Your memory is correct FILZ6. I've just swapped a set from one bike to another. They are not captive.
