General / What daft things have you sent people to get?
« on: 20 March 2015, 12:38:37 am »

You know the sort of thing, Long Weight, Glass Hammer (they actually exist), Left handed screwdriver etc.

We had a young lad in the workshop once who noticed some wooden dowels on top of the big oil fired heater in the corner, he asked "What are they for", I told him they were for wood welding, he scoffed for a while until I told him that for the welding to work properly they had to be very dry, that's why they were on the heater. He was still scoffing and pointed out that wood was an insulator and wouldn't conduct electricity, I told him that when you were ready to weld you dipped them quickly into a bucket of water and struck the arc, once the arc was established the wood turned into a liquid state which would conduct the electricity being conducted down the outside through the thin film of water and therefore you could weld wood.

He walked away convinced that he'd learned something new, it was weeks before he found out.

I also sent a young apprentice to the stores for a 9 inch Whitworth combination spanner, he came back after about an hour saying that the storeman said to come back and ask if a 10 inch one would do, I sent him back to ask the storeman to order one, the storeman played along for about a week giving all sorts of excuses why the spanner hadn't arrived.

The things you do when you're bored and fancy a laugh at work!

What a pair of races in the opening round!! Lets hope it carries on the same way. It looks like they've finally got the Ducati working well too, or has that got more to do with the rule changes, didn't the organisers use the Ducati software/ECU type thing as the standard across the board? Wasn't it something like, everyone has to use it but Ducati have obviously got more experience with it? Or did I just dream it?

Anyway, congrats to all the Brit riders, you did us proud lads!

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted Fairing Bracket
« on: 23 February 2015, 10:12:47 pm »

Hey guys, has anyone got a fairing bracket for a Gen 1 Fazer 1000, its the main one that bolts to the headstock and supports the fairing/clocks. It will save me a lot of time and effort with crowbars and blowtorches if anyone has a straight one they could sell to me.

Cheers.

Introduction / Evenin all
« on: 02 February 2015, 12:52:14 am »

Hi everyone! After 10 years on Hondas, '98 Blade and a "yawn" brief current spell on a '08 CBF1000ABS, ive decided that I need to return to my roots and get a Fazer 1000. I used to be a Yam man, DT50, RS125, YPVS350N1, FZ750, FZR600, FZR1000, TDM850 etc, but after being seduced by the quality of the streetfightered Blade I lost my way. Ive had the CBF for about 8 months and am bored to death with it, you never get off it thinking "that was great!" Its not that its a bad bike, its bloody wonderful as a long distance transport system, but its just not for me. So, as I cant buy a Honda Fazer 1000 or a Honda TDM850, I'm back to Yamaha. I don't really know a lot about the different Generations of the 1000 (ive tried the search function but not had much luck finding a definitive explanation) so any pointers would be appreciated. I reckon a 2003 model with as many upgrades to the suspension as I can afford, unless you lot know different! See you all in the forums!!

Billy.
