Another option would be to make her work place look like home, then all the stuff you need is already there.  :D

Computers eh? How ever did we manage back in the day without 'em :pc

I'd try a free download of the 60 day trial version, if it's what she's after then you can MAYBE think about a purchase?

Some employers offer their employees cut price licenses.

And if she is working from home for her employer they should provide it for her free of charge.

Forget 2010.. get 2016 for £9.95 :)

http://www.microsofthup.com/hupuk/home.aspx?country_id=GB

You populate with your work email address. if your company qualifies then you can get full office 2016 for under a tenner.
Just ignore the program code and submit. you should then receive a link at work to authenticate and then you can buy it.
Been using mine for a month or so now without issue.

good luck.

Its not that simple because what is needed to be done - it is expected that it can be done at work -- but it cannot be done within normal working hours and as the rest is unpaid then it may as well be done at home.
The softweare  and computers/ maintenance are handled by a subcontract company so I doubt that the softwere codes mentioned on the link can be sought.

Its all getting a bit complicated I just want the best and cheapest place to get a non dodgy copy of office 2010

Fazersharp, just click on the link that FuZzBoM has posted and follow the instructions (and his), it looks quite straightforward.
If she's not eligible then it will turn her down anyway.

Its all desktops and anyway she don't like working on laptops cause all the buttons are in funny places  :wall

we will look into the home use link but dont think that will be an option

So back to square one -- looking to buy a copy, but dont quite understand the ones for sale on ebay that say things like it was not reinstalled when the computers OS was reinstalled

I fully understand some people don't like change, but it won't be long before it's 2020, so in my opinion you should definitely give the 2016 version a go if at all possible.
A laptop keyboard is more or less the same as any keyboard, they're not out there to deliberately confuse you, as that would be bad for business!  :pc

If she is planning to do work from home that would normally be done in the office, the company should provide the tools to do it.
For email, yes Outlook is great but unless she as a company provided system, she wont have all he company email available at home.

I use a laptop at home with an external screen and keyboard.

You try fecking telling her that !!!!!!!
The work pcs are all desktops anyway.
She just wants to do a little bit at home that would normally be done at work so that she is at home and not all hours at work which is not paid anyway.
They use win 7 and office 10 and have only just last year changed to win 7 from xp.

Anyway isnt office 2016 a yearly subscription now because they have cottoned on to the fact that people buy the program once and then use it for 10/15 years

Does anyone know if say a word doc written in 2013 or 2016 can be opened in 2010 because we have word 2000 that canot open word 2010 docs which was another ploy to make you change up

There is no chance of the company providing the tools as we think they will say it should be done in the office, which it can but always takes 3 times as long due to interruptions, the idea is to take a little pressure off work by doing some at home. (we are not talking about any normal company )
She has a work email address that she can email things across to from home with outlook

Fazersharp,

I'm pretty sure after office 2007 they were all made backwards compatible. You may lose some of the formatting features if you go from say 2016 to 2010, but the document itself should be fine.

You could always take a look at OpenOffice which is a free suite of MS Office type tools.  They are interoperable, we used it at work for a while and you can open/edit files created in MS Office and vice versa.  It will save out to whatever version of office you want IIRC (so you can say save as -> MS Office 2007.)

It has all the main components, word, spreadsheets etc.  Its completely free and works well but isn't identical, unless your doing complex stuff it will be 99% the same.  We had a few issues at the beginning with some macros in spreadsheets but they were pretty complex for exporting custom data files to use in video games.

I can't remember if it has an email client, we used thunderbird which is a free tool like outlook.

two things.

If she dislikes laptop keyboards, buy a PC keyboard and plug it into the laptop. Its simple, cheap and works.

Office 2016 can save files for previous versions. Just change the details when you save the file (Save As function)

Amazon sell it, PC world sell it.  Have a little Google about and see who comes up cheapest.  You are looking about £100.

I understand this completely. I also don't like to work on laptops, unless I really have to.  Even plugging a USB keyboard still leaves me with a rather small screen.

Anyway, in my country 99.9% of people use pirate copies at home (and a vast majority at work as well). From what I understand, in UK that would be immoral, like being a thief? If that's not the case, a torrent copy of a craked programme and you're good to go - for free.

Microsoft doesn't seem to mind - the more people use their programmes at home and get used to them, the more likely they are to pay for copies for business use, where it is harder to avoid not paying.
Most things done in a hurry need to be done again - patiently.

I use an external screen too to get around this. In fact, I use it so the laptop has two screens with the main working one being the larger monitor.
