I went for the cheaper option and got some summit blindspot mirrors.. Trying to decide where best to mount them on the mirror. inner edge as that is where I generally see my elbows? or outer edge to give more field of view?
I guess my main issue is that for example if I am on a motorway in the middle lane I can see the left and right lanes.. I cannot however see directly behind me (in my lane). that is mainly what I am trying to achieve.

How tall are you guys who have ridden the Tracer? I am 6'3 and when I sat on it at the NEC I thought it was a bit cramped.. Could I consider parting with my Gen 1? lol

Google translated the description
Spacers Fairing Mirror - for more "respect" in traffic. Put the mirror laterally or in height, depending on trim geometry about 25 to 40 mm. The spacers are the contour of the fairing and the mirror base adapted and therefore fit in perfectly with the lines of the vehicle a. This model consists on each side of 3 individual elements. Made of sturdy plastic, milled from solid material, black, paintable, easy to assemble, incl. Mounting material, with TÜV approval. Supplied in kit for a pair of mirrors. The picture is similar and shows an application example.

Yeah price is a tad steep.. I am just bored of mostly seeing my elbows in my mirrors. If I angle them any wider it is too wide an angle to be of any use. I have seen the summit style blind spot mirrors, they probably work well but look a bit naff IMHO.. might have to get over that and give them a whirl if they help that much. Would still be keen to hear of anyone who has fitted spacers of any kind though. I have found this video, they look similar to the SW Motech ones and that person thinks they work ok.

Wow these must be really unpopular lol. Nobody fitted them or anything like them before?

Signal boosters are generally crap. all they do is amplify everything including the interference. as Bigralphie said they are only useful if distributing to multiple devices. I have 2 TV's running off 1 aerial without a booster and runs fine.
have you retuned your receiver recently? I am on the Sandy heath transmitter and had to retune my telly boxes just after Christmas, some of the channels have moved about a bit in my area.
If same time each night could be something turning on? central heating pump etc? Reminds me of being a kid and my mums spin dryer would kill our TV lol
Other alternative is bigger aerial and outside.
Good luck

Look for an Austin maxi 1750. It'll easily get you there in comfort and with the double bed feature save you on hotel bills
http://www.theadventurists.com/mongol-rally-the-rules/ Pretty sure the mongol rally was always a limit of £500. Seems it's all change this year though and 125cc bikes can enter
Cheers for suggestion. are they not all rotten by now? lol. Already paid for camping so sleeping in it will not be needed. Nothing quite tops a Jag for the pose factor and having a V8 in my book And the Mongol rally we have discussed doing before. Might get round to it one year.

Thanks for the offer but I will decline, this is just for a bit of fun. I have no interest in spending time and money getting a car roadworthy only to trash it and probably scrap it after my trip. I spend enough time and money on my Impreza as it is lol. At present we are looking to fall back on my car or my mates 911.. Maybe not a bad idea as we know they are mechanically sound

I cannot bring myself to buy a Diesel.. I am going to a 24 hour race not a shopping trip lol. Cost on fuel does not bother me. As I said I was planning to take my Impreza and that does about 15mpg round town and maybe 20mpg on a run, no matter what we get it will probably be better than that.

ideally we would like to keep it below a grand.. closer to the original £500 if possible. Just spotted this little gem lol http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201501240413547/We had thought about a Land Rover but you can get Ford explorer's and Jeeps With V8 petrol engines for the same money with lower mileage. We do feel we need a V8 for some reason

It is looking like we may up the budget.. instead of buying an old wreck for £500 we may put our money together and pay £1000 And we may have to admit defeat and go with the English/Jag stereotype. Couple of XJ8's floating around for £800-£1000

Interesting suggestions lol.. Ideally it should be at the least semi roadworthy (yeah moon on a stick, I know) Saab not being even remotely British is a no go I'm afraid. Reliant Kitten would take forver to get there (if it got there) and it is still in bits and needs rebuilding... Omega.. I like it. already has the stupid factor applied haha. shame it has ended.
ok well ideally I would like it to have a bit of MOT or at least looks roadworthy. If MOT runs out end of May it would be ok by me. Do not have the time to do a full restoration to a car for basically a long weekend.

Guys, Bit of a random one this but bare with me...
Me and some mates going to watch Nurburgring 24 hour race in May. Originally we had intended to take My Subaru Impreza WRX wagon and my mate take his 911 Carrera. we then realised there would not be enough space for 5 adults and luggage, so another mate suggested taking his big Merc estate in place of my Impreza.
This was the plan until we saw Top Gear tonight and we thought what could we get for peanuts to make the trip more of a laugh? Just a bit of fun so want to keep it cheap. £500 area. I think it needs to be British... Obvious choice is an old Jag. loads around and cheap enough but that is the problem! it really is the obvious choice. Can anyone think of anything British that will be cheap to purchase etc. other than Rovers and Jags?
cheers,

Hi all, Been looking at these mirror extenders available. http://www.motorcycle-road-and-race.co.uk/mirror-extensions-sw-motech-yamaha-fzs-1000-fazer-01-05Anyone got them? are they any good? Price is a tad steep for a couple of bits of metal and I guess some longer bolts?! are they worth it or any other cheaper options available? want some options as I can mainly see my elbows while on the bike.... I have seen the mod to reverse mirror on the pivot point of the bracket but I would rather keep them standard if I can help it. cheers,

I went along last year and was a little unimpressed. It feels like the poor relation to the NEC show IMHO. I think they must be struggling to sell tickets if they have joined a forum to tout them lol. Having said that I am going along again this year. I had hoped to sit on the MT-09 Tracer but so far looks as if Yamaha could not be bothered to attend either. http://www.mcnmotorcycleshow.com/exhibitors.php

i use a mio digiwalker. i paid around 30 sovs for it from ebay which is about the going rate, i load up where i want to go, put it in my pocket and feed an ear piece through my jacket and listen to the instructions. cheap, effective and waterproof when in a plastic bag. i can't figure why people pay hundreds and festoon bikes with ugly mounting fixings which necessitate taking eyes off the road when this solution is available.
i also use it in my work van and mrs uses it when cycling places too.
down sides? it can sometimes take a few minutes to find where it is. it isn't a full postcode search, part postcode and then road name are required. the supplied ear piece was very uncomfortable so i bought a decent in-ear headphone set.
It is called personal preference Personally I prefer to have the screen in front of me so I can have a quick glance down and see when the next turn off is on a motorway. That and I can operate it with gloves on. More than once I have hit the zoom out button to see if I can find a quick shortcut when stuck in traffic. Picks up satellites in no more than 20 seconds (even indoors), has full postcode search, points of interest, petrol stations etc etc. Bluetooth headset capability and comes with the attachments to mount it to a bike. That is where the extra money goes.. Oh and you can probably improve your Mio Digiwalker by installing iGO software. It will install on to most of them. Might be worth looking into as has more functionality than the stock Mio software.

Might be worth checking it has the latest firmware.. A mate of mine uses them for media work and they had an issue with the format being corrupt a few times. Drift advised was a known firmware issue and to update it.. could be a red herring but worth keeping in mind. http://store.driftinnovation.com/firmware-update/

Hi schlumpf,
ok I might take a look at these settings and have a play. Also while I think about it I have never seen the gauge read more than 20 liters when the tank is full. I thought the FZS1000 tank was 21? (according to online stats) could reducing this value also show my full capacity as 21 liters?
thanks, Fuzz
