Anybody used brake calipers exchange?
« on: 25 October 2015, 12:09:09 pm »
Hello,

Does anybody has used brake calipers exchange?

I have not done brake servcing and I am pretty sure there are things there which professional mechanic would do better than me  :lol

The brakes are very important to not potato yourself. Hence the question:

Found these guys that do professional refurbishing and brake calipers exchange for £77 each. Sounds like good idea to me?

You could buy a used working PAIR for that money, then have a spare set to practice on and clean up in your own time!

Free new pads too with these!

I'll 2nd that, brake calipers are pretty simple, hardest thing is finding a tool that will scrape out any corrosion from the grove that sits behind the seals (this is generally what causes brakes to seize on in the first place)
Complete fabrication, I didn't make it up!

Make up the tool from very hard plastic or anything softer than Aluminium
Use a little junior hacksaw to cut it to the width of the seals and a fine file to sharpen and finish the fit .
As long as it is softer than Aluminium it won't damage anything and works a treat  :)

"Borrow" your wife/partners best comb, remove all of the teeth except for the last one and file this down to suit the seal groove. After use sneak it back and deny all knowledge.
