I have a 1998 with 32k on the clock. I get a petrol smell from the exhaust even when the engine is hot. Is this normal and am I too used to my car with a cat with no smell. It idles fine and no other problems other than a bit of time to start from cold now more than in summer.
It has had new
Oil and filter
Plugs
Air filter
Fuel filter
I assume that it is just the age of the bike.

Stop smelling it and ride it :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin
Unless it really bad and your fuel comsumtion goes up and/or it starts mucking about for get it and enjoy it.

Question answered that sort of what I thought. Old carb engine smell.

I once had someone who had been riding behind me tell me he could smell unburnt fuel and it was because I'd put an after-market can on but still had the standard air filter. The exhaust was letting the gasses out faster but the filter wasn't letting air in quickly enough. Once I switched to a K&N filter which lets more air in it was sorted.
Make sure your air filter isn't clogged up and/or check that the carbs are properly set up for any after-market exhaust bits you've got.
Other than that, as Gnasher says, just ride it. That way you won't be able to smell it :)
