Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZS 1000 2004 model sales brochure.
« on: 10 April 2021, 11:49:54 pm »
Just wondering what is the correct sales brochure for my Fazer?  It's a late registered 04 model on an 05 plate, checked with Fowlers years ago. The question is should the brochure be marked #3MC-0107004-03E.  The 03 near the end seems to relate to the year but I have never seen an FZS 1000 brochure marked 04E!   The two production years, 03 and 04 FZS 1000s I believe are exactly the same machines, tuning fork logo on the tank and exactly the same colours were available which makes me think there is possibly only one sales brochure marked 03E.  I am sure some of the immensely learned Fazer gurus on here will know!

General / Re: RS Paints promotional code?
« on: 30 March 2021, 07:43:29 pm »
The only way I found to save money when buying from RS was to *only* get their paint, but sourcing etch primer and lacquer from other places that were cheaper!
Thanks, thought I might be missing something obvious.

Long shot I know, but has anyone got one minty R and G crash bung for an FZS 1000?   Google "R and G Racing Crash Protectors for a Yamaha Fazer 1000"  and you will see the type I am looking for.

General / RS Paints promotional code?

Having spent a kings ransom on RS paint in the past  :eek , has anyone found where, or how you get a promotional discount code?   I have never found one or been sent one when I have bought paint from them in the past!   Yes their product is excellent but with the cost of tax and their postage it just becomes almost a joke!  :'(

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZS 1000 Front engine mount bracket bushes.

Should the four steel spacers be lubricated in their bushings within the bracket assembly, if so what type of grease is officially recommended for this job, if any.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Engine brush paint?
« on: 22 March 2021, 11:12:41 am »
Thanks gents, RS brush Paints are only available in small touch up quantities, 25 ml, I think, bloody good but expensive.  I could mask everything off but cannot be arsed at the moment, and as usual just noticed other bits and pieces that could do with a face lift........... Maybe next year! ;)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Engine brush paint?
« on: 20 March 2021, 11:27:38 pm »
I know about the Simoniz engine aluminium enamel spray paint, but is there any good match brush paint?  With the headers off I have  removed all the grease with good old gunk and cleaned the front of my engine and it's not too bad as the bike only has 11,000 miles on it.  I don't want to remove the engine for obvious reasons. Been told you can use a sponge type brush too good effect by dabbing it on the slightly rough cast finish at the front.  Any ideas.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Coolant level
« on: 11 March 2021, 11:29:24 am »
Daft question time. The expansion tank simply has a push on rubber plug/cover, how is the expansion tank “engine up to temperature, thus full pressure” isolated from the cooling system in a fashion that the expansion tank can top the cooling system up without its contents simply being pressurised thus blown out everywhere! A car expansion tank has a cap which retains pressure on a car?

Curious to roughly find out the service history and mileage of the bike, seen many a Fazer with a low mileage but been sat hardly used after a winter or two with salt laden roads that were in horrendous condition!  Common problem to many makes and models but it must be said our Fazers rate at one of the worst in this respect! :wall   :'( P.s. But we must remember Gen 1s are all now old bikes!

For Sale & Wanted / Electronic KPH to MPH Speedo/Mileage convertor.
« on: 13 January 2021, 11:33:31 pm »
Taken from my old 600 Foxeye European import simply plugs between two existing connectors below the tank, a kph speedo then displays in mph and records distance in miles. £35 posted.

I've had no joy in finding a N.O.S. one anywhere!  :wall

Fowlers might have said decal/sticker. Sadly it has joined the growing list of N.L.A. Fazer items!

68
A reasonable condition decal from the swinging arm that I can get copied. These used to be available new from Fowlers Yamaha.  Part No 5LV-21668-00.   But alas now N.L.A as many Gen 1 Fazer parts are rapidly becoming,  :\  (The Gen 2 decal is available)  If someone has a knackered swinging arm, the decal can be removed with little damage, see you tube.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Brake pads?
« on: 21 November 2020, 07:18:13 pm »
Just wondered who makes the original Yamaha brake pads?  Had a look at mine today while changing the brake fluid, they are o.k but just checked the price from Yamaha 😡 bloody hell!  Don’t want anything fancy that rips the disc to shreds, any recommendations?

Seems to be sold!  I'm not surprised, Its all supply and demand!   As we know tremendous machines and now getting rare in this condition! Try finding a better one for sale at the moment.  Having restored several older classics, Kawasaki H2B, H1E, Yamaha RD400F, years ago you could find many of the less sought after items at dealers, bought by them years ago, not sold, and then available at discounted prices, but not now! Since Fazers were introduced almost no dealers keep a stock of large or small items particular to a specific model, yes , gaskets, filters, bolts, seals, and various consumable service items.  You will find now many parts for Fazer FZSs  are N.L.A. or you will have to pay the 2020 cost new direct from Yamaha for almost anything, you never see a dealer advertising a load of " new old stock parts ".  I dread to think what it would cost! If you want a good one, buy the best you can afford within reason, there are loads of eternal money pit dogs out there!  P.S. any sought after items inevitably end up in a bidding war on "Evil Bay"!

      Thanks.  :thumbup
