Hi mate, I've just fitted clip-ons and I know they're not ace bars (which would be easier to fit) but they're going to end up in a similar position and I'm afraid there's not a hope in hell that they'll go on without hitting the fairing so you're looking at modifying it or losing it altogether. Cheers, Giles

I've recently fitted a full system with Simmi end can (baffles still in), K&N filter element and new plugs and she runs sweet as a nut. Pulls really strongly with no flat spots and no re-jetting! Giles

Quick update. It's all sorted now! Turns out I couldn't have got the wires more wrong. The earth was in the wrong place and the two lives were the wrong way around! This made them both come on when it was set to dipped, with the main on about half power (hence the faded main beam ight on the instruments) and the main beam came on full when switched on. D'oh! Thanks for the help. Cheers, Giles

I recently fitted a set of downpipes from Sandybikespares and think they're bloody brilliant! You lose a tiny bit of top end but the fat shove of torque in the midrange more than makes up for it. I think the extra torque comes from the 4-2-1 design and the larger internal diameter of the pipes. Probably the best mod I've done to the bike! Giles

Hi mate,
It's 60/55w like standard bulbs and I'm using a single, dual filament bulb.

Hi guys, Can anyone help me with this small problem, please? I've converted my '98 Fazer to a cafe racer look with a single headlight. I'm now very pleased with the looks, handling and headlight perfomance (which is about a million times better than standard!). My problem is now when I switch the dipped beam on, the high beam light on the instrument panel comes on at about half strength and when I switch to main beam it comes on fully. When I first wired up the light I had the dipped and main beam wired up the wrong way around BUT the main beam light on the panel came on ONLY when the main beam was switched on. The troubles have only started since I've wired the lights correctly simply by switching the connectors around in the plug for the bulb. I checked all the earths and connections and even earthed both the earth wires from the original twin headlight wiring but to no avail. I have changed the main bulbs in the instuments to LED ones but they made no difference to the idiot lights when the headlight wiring was the wrong way around so I'd guess they're not the reason. It's obviously getting a small feed from somewhere. Perhaps I need some resistors somewhere? Any ideas greatly appreciated! Cheers, Giles

Just did mine today as I had some of those bulbs lying around from an old project that I never ended up using. Really easy to fit and they're colour changers too! They go from green to blue to purple in a slow gradual fade and look spot-on! Giles

Need some help, please. My cafe racer conversion is nearly done on my Fazer but the clip-on bars have meant that all the cables for the controls are now really long and bunch up, taking any slack out of them and possibly having dangerous side effects if something sticks open/closed. As Thundercats have lower bars, does anyone know if the cables are shorter and if they'll fit the Fazer? Thanks, Giles

I'm not sure if this has any relevance as it was on a car but my old Impreza had exactly the same problem and I changed the coils (not cheap for 4 Impreza coils!) and, voila, problem cured! I also had the same probelm on my race bike but that turned out to be a split HT lead and monsoon conditions at Snetterton! Giles

It'll be interesting to see if it does clear the centre stand because even with YFM's brackets, I still had to adjust the gear change rod as ar as it'd go to miss the stand.

just to add to this thread, I am in the process of adapting my SES rearsets from one of my Ducati's to fit the FZS. the bolt holes are only 2mm out, so a tiny amount of filing is needed they may be an option for you too?
Hmmm, interesting. Let me know how you get on! Giles

Hi Jamie, My standard can has the holes there too. I think they're intentional, like you say, for drainage. What happened to my can though was the link pipe that's attached to it became loose and started blowing from around the join. I couldn't see any way of removing the pipe from the end can to fix it so I packed it with exhaust paste which didn't look pretty but did the job for a couple of months until the British weather finally broke it down. Wasn't too bothered though as it gave me the perfect excuse to get my nice, shiney, Simmi end can! Giles

Well, thanks to YFM's very helpful drawing, I've successfully made and fitted the riser plates and they feel great, although I still might get rearsets in the future when funds allow for an even racier position. I was going to post pictures of them but my footrest hangers look horrible! Anyone recommend something to clean oily, corroded, alloy hangers?

Thanks for the suggestions. I thought I'd have to make some sort of brackets connected to the riser mounts; although I'll look into ways of making it stiffer to help with the vibration. Giles

Hi guys, In my quest to 'cafe racer' my Fazer I am removing the fairing and fitting a single headlight and clip-ons. My problem is what to hold the clocks on with as I believe their fixings are part of the same fairing/headlamp bracket? Do people make their own brackets or is there one off another model that'll fit? Cheers, Giles

Hi
No lathe or Milling M/c, Just a Hacksaw,a File or two ,a cheap pedestal drill a couple of drills and metric taps. Come on you can do it
ATB YFM
Now, those tools I can do! I'll give it a go at the weekend. i've modified a few bikes over the years and used whatever was available. cbr600 rear sets are fairly cheap on ebay, but i would usually weld a suitable plate to suit. not something you can do on an assembled bike very easily though.
Given my history of welding things; I think I'll try the first method! Cheers, Giles

Cheers YFM, that's great! I'll give it a go but without the use of a lathe or milling machine, I'm going to have to try with a hacksaw and angle grinder! LOL

Hi guys, I'm converting my Fazer into a cafe racer and need some rear sets and don't fancy spending 340 odd quid on some Gilles ones! Any cheaper suggestions? Cheers, Giles

Hi all, I'm Giles from Epsom, Surrey and have owned my trusty gen1 FZS 600 for about 4 years now, using her for the dialy commute to London and for general hooning around on. As she's coming up to her 35,000 mile mark I thought I'd treat her so she's now wearing a full stainless 4-2-1 system with Simmi can, K&N filter, NGK Irridium plugs and Pirelli Diablo Strada tyres. As the fairings cracked after I dropped her in the snow (D'oh!) I've decided to cafe racer her as I've always loved the look of them, so I'm sure I'll be after everyone's help and advice very soon! Cheers, Giles
