Title: Brake light problem
Post by: bigfootpete on 30 April 2014, 05:07:21 pm
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas about my brake lights not working:

FZS1000, both headlights and tail lights function, but applying the hand brake or foot brake does
not activate the second filament of the brake lights bulbs.

Fuses are all ok, indicators also work fine, its just the brake lights.

I checked the wiring where it connects from the master cylinder and that appears to be ok.

Nope, both bulbs are in perfect condition, filaments are intact.

Has the bulb been changed recently? if so is the new one fitted correctly , check the pin orientation as some are offset and some are straight :rolleyes

I couldn't see the wiring, I might have to get right inside to check the wiring further.

filament might look intact, but I've had bulbs look like that and still be knackered. Stick a new one in, ya tight foccer  :lol

New bulb - same problem.

I took off the rear fairing today and checked all the wiring, couldn't see any cuts or bare wires or reason why the brake lights aren't working,
also followed the wiring all the way through and even re-crimped the connections just bellow the master cylinder.

I'm taking it in on Tuesday afternoon to see if the local shop can resolve the issue.

Check your brake light switches. I had the same problem. Front one was knackered rear needed adjusting. If it's the front switch don't buy cheap ones off ebay like I have. I've had two in less than a year and it's just gone again.
