OLD RECORD SMASHED !
« on: 03 May 2013, 07:02:49 pm »
Hello Foccer's, After a reasonably sedate commute to Acton the other day. I had managed to get just under 150 miles with quarter of a tank left. This got me thinking that I could get another 50 before my fuel light comes on and I know the bike is capable of 70 miles on reserve. Could this be a record coming up ?  Anyway, I kind of got a little bit distracted by the throttle and only achieved  185 miles before the unnecessary worrying fuel light came on. Still, I took it pretty easy from then on and managed a staggering 259.5 miles before it started to splutter.  I put in a measured 1/2 litre and rode 2 1/2 miles to the garage where it took 22 litres (much to the annoyance of everyone behind me :lol ). This was all done sporting a 45litre top box.  It's going to be interesting to see if this is still capable of this after it's been Ivanised.

Good lad! Just shows what times we're living in that I find this interesting. Growl.

I had a test ride on the VFR1200 a couple of years ago as a possible replacement for the Fazer and one of the many many reasons I didn't buy one was the tank capacity. Now funnily enough, there's a huge thread on the VFR1200 forum where half say they get 90 miles to reserve and some others seem to manage 160. But it's the level of bitterness on that forum that makes me chuckle. They're all paranoid about that bike!

I think the best anyone's done on a VFR is 212 and I just knew the Fazer would knock that into a cocked hat, and here we are.

Personally, I've caned the Fazer for 180 miles on a tank and cruised to an easy 210. My worst was 110 on a track day.

I bet if you rode as slowly as some of those VFR owners you could get 280 on a tank on a Fazer. but that would be 70 to the gallon which is what BIKE magazine got out of one on an mpg test a few years ago.

Poor ol' VFR owners. Beaten yet again by a dull old straight four designed almost 15 years ago.

45.46 mpg according to my mathematicalism bloody good for a gen2. I only get 42 max when riding 'normally'

I got that figure (45 mpg)from a gen 1 going from London to Beziers (south of France) in a day, I thought I was keeping to the limits until I realised they were in km hahaha
Just going in and out of nearest town is a 40+ mile trip and get 55 mpg, not trying to save the juice either....

Dazza sorry for hijacking the thread ;)

I have read that the Fz1 was crap on fuel ,35mpg,so 42.56 is not too bad,, and i do not hang around, could do the same as Dazza and try economy throttle :'(

I have a custom map on my Power commander, maybe this is helping,

I managed 47mpg on my gen2, but that was riding like a nun. Just filled up today after a 'leisurely' ride and got 43.9mpg. Not bad really.
